browsing through the Southern catalogue a little. this almost down-home record does it for me. solid jazzy cues with some outstanding moments.

i must confess that i have a weakness for library records using the terms jazz, dramatic and mystery. can't help myself. just difficult to pass on them, haha!

i think it does not happen often that an library record gets 5 stars from every person rating. surely this does not mean anything but still, i consider this as one of the best De Wolfe's and it would be in my De Wolfe top 10 for sure. what a versatile composer Peter Reno was! kind of a underrated small-time Umiliani from the UK, haha!

in my opinion it off starts a bit lame, but gets super exciting till the end. if you listen to it a few times, it is so rewarding. check the youtube clip to hear the full rip of this critically acclaimed record...

Need to get that one!

Peter Reno, or rather 'Cliff Twemlow' is somewhat of a legend. Aside from library work he also acted and directed. I think a book was even written about him. There is a great finders keepers podcast where they discuss him, one of the Halloween ones I think, with Vincent Price, not "the" Vincent price, talking about him.

And let's not forget the Peter Reno track "I'm a man" used in DOTD.

was bidding on quite some of them but the only one that i got was this one:

@million didn't see the hi-q stuff. Did they sell for much? So hard to know what you might get with those. Out of the 10-12 I got awhile back maybe 1 was pretty good, 1 was okay the others were pretty generic, classical music, cheesy big band and swing. There is not much info about any of them to be found really anywhere, they must not have made many..

I honestly think this record is overhyped, with sports and crowd sounds mixed into the tracks, lots of short tracks. A few good samples but I'm not sure why someone would drop 1100+ except it is very rare.

Prices are crazy...found copies of Ittiologia and insetti but the ask price is a wacky €900 each! Mental

@Texas: i like the record. you are right, the first five Ricci tracks have that crowd sounds and first i ever listened to this i thought my record is busted, haha! anyway. the rest of the record is really good, has only some weaker moments. the price being paid for this is another story though...

Ittiologia and Biologia Marina that you have 'found' for 900€ must be Tommasi's copies. almost everybody knows about them. :) funny thing is that he is asking for that price for years and he has sold some of them already. i think it is OK because this is the first case where the actual artist makes a little profit from the music so many are craving and paying big money for. usually only the greedy dealer make some money with these records.

another one on Aris that i dig! i think vol. 1 is a bit lame but this one, by the Bitter-Sweet Group, is rather sweet, not bitter at all! if there is no vol.3, i would say these are the only two library records from this obscure label.

there are some clips up on boxes of toys blog, this one deserves a reissue in my opinion...

I put in a pretty big bid for this. But the price doubled in the last 10 seconds. Oh well the reissue is nice enough, I don't really need to have an original and didn't need to be spending money anyway!

a friend asked me to do this picture for him and i thought it might be of interest in here. not much known about this series that has appeared only recently and many do not know about it yet. i would say it is almost mythical and it seems to be a private thing that the great Antonio Ricardo Luciani did. opinions vary on pressing numbers. some say it's 50, others say 100 of each only. one guy told me that only 20 were made which would not make any sense to me, but would explain the rarity and the fact that they never turn up. the truth may be somewhere in the middle.

really love everything about this series. extremely professional design, quality (pressing and music) and finish! this must be Luciani's landmark in his career. every single record covering a special topic and genre. not all of them are groundbreaking but the series as a whole is significant.

@ Million: great picture. You are a library treasure keeper. Do you have any idea how your collection ranks among library aficionado's? Are people aware of the scope of your collection? Is there a library inner circle with you at the helm?
Do you collect all library records? Or mainly the Italian ones? Are there library records from Asia? Or South-America? What does it all mean?

really have no idea how good or bad my library collections is. i would say it is a matter of opinion. not too many people are aware of the stuff i am holding but that's my full intention. i am a introverted collector in terms of social media and do not want to publish my stuff. do not get the point. never will. actually this is the only place where i post some pictures of stuff that i mess with. i am quite certain that i have some stuff, others would kill me for, but on the other hand collectors have other good stuff that i would kill them for, too. library collecting is a struggle, haha!

i do not collect all library records by the way. just the stuff that attracts me personally. some time ago, i tried to complete several library catalogues but since space [and of course time] is always limited, i concentrate on the cherries of all the labels. for some stuff (like the Publispei series) i gladly make an exception. italian stuff is fascinating for several reasons, but i am really not an expert for italian library records. if the attitude of the record is good, i don't care, what country the library comes from. people who think italian libraries are the best, really piss me off to be honest.

i believe there are library records from asia. do not know about south american ones though.

What does it all mean?

Another question pops up though: how do you know what cherries to pick? To me it all sounds so obscure that one could hardly know how the music sounds like on some of those records.
Also, what do you mean by attitude? I guess a great looking cover would be enough to warrant a purchase?
