Saw Den of Thieves yesterday, scored by cliff martinez. The film is absolutely awful, with entire scenes ripped directly from your favourite bank robbery/ heist movies like Heat, Usual Suspects, Dog Day Afternoon, with flashes of gone in 60 seconds for good measure. I mean I love those movies, but instead of having good actors and good script, we have Gerard Butler who’s a shit Russell Crowe delivering a script so devoid of humour or life it may as well not bother showing up to work, which Butlers character basically does for the entire movie before inexplicably solving the crime he has no idea about and killing everyone. There is no explanation given as to how he knows anything, so all the clever rip offs of Heat’s detective work scenes suddenly drop dead. “We don’t bring handcuffs” means they just shoot to kill all bad guys, but as he delivers this butch line like a tranquilized horse he’s just watched 5 men rob a bank and escape. He’s literally the worst policeman ever depicted on screen. At least Pacino takes his TV back from the new boyfriend and Val Kilmer gets away. Nobody wins in this shit show, even the bank robbery is boring as a showpiece event.
Luckily 50 cent gets blown away otherwise we couldn’t even enjoy his pointless death.
