the consensus around here is that the mastering is low quality and from CD and the dialogue is distractingly mixed in with the music tracks. I agree on both counts. Cheers.
I think the audio quality is pretty good actually. It does mirror the expanded 20th anniversary CD soundtrack release, but I've never been able to find an answer as to whether it was lifted directly from the CDs or just the same source materials. Carpenter, if memory serves (too lazy to dig up my old disk ), approved the expanded anniversary release so apparently he liked the dialog in there. I, however, prefer it without. It works in spots, but overall it's not my cup of tea. I have an original pressing as well and that is dialog free.

EDIT: Here's a review that includes an answer to the mastering question.

Stands to reason Carpenter approved it. If you've heard the expanded Escape From New York CD, there's a ton of dialogue on there.

Right, but Spencer didn't use that for his release of Escape From NY (Thankfully). Mondo made a choice, fair enough. For a vinyl release, there's too much of it and it goes on for too long at times. Makes me want to track down an original release.

Out of curiosity anyone receive a shipping notification on either paranorman or coraline yet?

Received coralline today. The packaging is very nice. Haven't had a chance to listen yet.

I do, but I'm also not replacing my original because of it, if that makes sense. I prefer the score sans dialog. I was really just trying to paint a fuller picture of the release and where it was sourced from. It isn't terrible at all unless the dialog ruins it for you and if it does, fair enough.

Attention Hipsters: The Jurassic Park Soundtrack Is Being Released on Vinyl

Wired just did a story/interview with Mondo about the Jurassic Park vinyl. Bottom line, now there will be even more of a frenzy with this release.

"While only 1,000 copies of McCarthy’s amber LP were pressed, Richard’s version will be more widely available with 2,000 copies of the dilophosaurus pattern and 3,000 copies of the black version up for grabs."

I was just wondering this. I haven't received info on either of these records. :( I'm jealous you all have them already! I JUST received my replacement jacket today for my omen. They didn't even give me a replacement inner sleeve like I asked for. GAH! I guess I will just use one of my own.

Can someone please explain to me how Jurassic fucking Park is a hipster thing? A John Williams score of one of the giantest movies ever made doesn't scream "hipster" to me.

Yeah, no doubt that Jurassic Park is gonna big a big release. I've noticed that a few sort of "big celebrities" have tweeted and such about it, too. Oh well, I still ain't gonna buy it! :D

Mondo's shipping windows are looonnnngggggggg. It takes them at least 2 weeks to get all the orders out for a given title. Sometimes you're the head, sometimes you're the tail (unless you're layneharvey whereby you automatically receive a variant by express delivery).

People think that listening to music on vinyl is a hipster thing. Who cares, that word has virtually no actual meaning these days, don't worry about it.

Damn Layne Harvey and his mustache of magic... Next time I go to Mt. Pleasant and visit my aunt, I'm going to have to witness this unicorn they speak of. See if it really exists, or if it is just a fable.

Well, I just got my shipping notification. I guess sometimes you have to speak of the devil to make him appear. I guess I will get them early next week if all goes well. Hoping I'll get a variant this time! Not a bad time to get my first variant from these money suckers. LOL. Has there been any word about when Gravity will stop being pre-order status and will actually ship?

It still says second week of may doesn't it? That's probably either next week or August on the hipster calendar.

Whoops, my apologies for asking a question that had an answer posted. I don't remember a vague answer there before. So do they mean the second FULL week in May or the second week with a day in it? ;) I think I am more on board with the release in August thing. Sounds like a round numbered month. Gives them more time to get their records in a row.

I'm really excited about The Visitor soundtrack. I can't stop playing Sadness Theme, I think it's one of the best tracks I've discovered this year. I've been walking around whistling it all week!

I'm thinking I am going to skip the visitor. I am ambivalent about it. I know I will end up wanting it and knowing my luck, this will be one of the ones that will end up being hard to get. :/ I just don't have the money right now between RSD and the tax man emptying my wallet. Ugh. This will be the first one I've skipped since I jumped on the Mondo wagon. It feels weird. LOL.

don't be sad about it. i skipped GRAVITY and will skip JURASSIC PARK. i listened to the VISITOR tracks and really like it, so i will be getting that one, but as far as skipping releases, don't sweat it. :) that being said, i will probably never skip a release from waxwork, DW, or OWS... they haven't let me down yet with any of their releases.

I've skipped plenty of DW releases (due to funds and mostly because I didn't collect back when they were released) and I'm missing one WW (Day of the Dead). I'm still really bummed about missing that one. I had the chance to preorder and didn't since I asked my brother for it for Christmas and the turd got me a limited edition Michael Franti LP instead. Don't get me wrong, I like the Franti record, but I wish he would have told me he wasn't getting me the WW record so I could have snagged one of the zombie flesh ones at cost. :/

I have all the OWS ones since they released the picture disc for RSD and since I have the sub, I am covered for a bit. I FINALLY have a DW sub thanks to the lower cost black version, so now I won't be missing out on those bad boys for a while!!! :D

Just sent my Omen and Halloween LP covers back to Mondo for replacement because of the infamous split at the top. Let's hope it goes well getting new ones back.
