I recently won a pricey item on eBay (more than £100). Before bidding I looked at the rating which looked great - 100% positive from 250+ feedbacks. Looking closer, however, I now realize that only a small handful of those were feedback left to the person as a seller (the most recent one more than a year ago).

Now, I'm considering if I should just not pay - something which I've never done before. I have asked for the item to be sent registered, but was wondering how I would be covered if the seller sends the package but includes another (cheap) item instead of the one I won.

It would just be my word against his I guess? Anyone know how would I be covered PayPal-wise in this case?

PayPal will ALWAYS side with the buyer if it come down to he said she said.

The seller always takes the bigger risk.

Paypal saved my money once, as I have bought a camera for 300€ and never received it.

For expensive eBay stuff, I will establish contact with the seller before going for it. You have a 31 day (double check this) period where if the item hasn't been received you can submit a dispute.
My experiences have been 11 years positive. Only scam so far has been from Massacre Video.

I don't sell a great deal on eBay but I recently sold a high priced headphone amp, sometimes you gotta trust your fellow man.

that said, Paypal will protect you. I once sold some computer memory for £80 and forgot to send it recorded delivery. Chap said he never received it and he got a full refund, and no doubt the memory too!

Sounds like he is a buyer with good feedback and he likely a good seller as well just happens he buys more than he sells.
