What would Carpenter's worst movie be?
Looking at his filmography I did not know about Memoirs of an Invisible Man? I think that is the only Carpenter movie I haven't seen. I think I have seen The Ward.

His worst movie is probably The Ward or Memoirs. Neither of them are very good.

Bez my fond memory of wishmaster was being able to meet bum Icon actor Buck Flower. He came in for teeth casts.. He also plays a bum in wishmaster with quite the funny dialog. The impressions went on for days after....I'm the President....I knew when I got this I would be President.

The Faculty was about a four and a half months pre production time during a record heat wave. I remember like 5 weeks straight of 115 to 120 temp in a warehouse with no ac. By the end of the day your pants were hanging like young Jeezy...not because we cool but sweat. I and another artist sculpted the bleacher creature and the pool puppet and a little on the final large one. That was actually kind of a simple job and enjoyable to work on.

Phantoms was a weird one for me and oddly meaniful. Nothing to do with the quality of the movie but two main reasons. I like pasty cline and now when ever I here I fall to pieces it reminds me of the film. But mainly when I was a little kid my father was an avid reader and I saw the Phantoms book cover on his table that had the moth on it. So cut twenty something years later I am walking around Ralph's supermarket looking at lobster tails for reference for the moth/insect tail for reference. Just one of those full circle.moments from childhood that was weird.

The Dentist is a very fun movie. It has been so long since I have seen it but remember enjoying it. I did not even know there was a sequel. How was part 2?

Hey I watched this earlier this week. Nice :)

@evan I didn’t mind it. I felt the quality of the movie was the same as the first. If you enjoyed the first one you should like this one. Clint Howard was a happy surprise

@evan Thanks for sharing some of your memories. I really loved Phantoms and The Faculty.

I did not care much for The Dentist 2. It was more of the same but not as fun. I would love to see a single LP with Alan Howarth’s score of both on it.

I really need to watch that one Evan!

Now rewatching a little Sunday eve comfort movie - Bottin's rubber/animatronics work in this is soooo fantastically fun!

I had my hand on the case for this tonight but ended up not doing it. Now I’m reconsidering that decision.

I welcomed 1999 with this one, but halfway in I am fighting to finish it. This is not good. It is not funny it is not scary it has some idiotic wish execution in it.

Well there is a part 3 and 4...

I had seen this one before and thought it still was alright. As in mediocre 90's horror :-)

I think myself, Hatter and Inks have all previously confessed our affection for those late 90s/early 2000s big budge horror remakes... Dark Castle etc. Speaking of - I threw on Gothika yesterday and, yeah it's not very good. Shame because Matthieu Kassowitz was very promising at that time. Love me La Haine and Crimson Rivers.

Actually it was me saying I didn't like those films and you and Hatter defending them ;)

There are some decent ones in there and others I really dislike. I haven't House on Haunted Hill in years but I actually remember enjoying that one.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer dir by John McNaughton

I had never seen this, it's been on my list for years. I finally gave it a watch this weekend. I love Michael Rooker so it was cool to see him in his first role. He does a fantastic job. The first half of the film I kept thinking to myself, what's so bad about this film that every one always says it's so disturbing, all of the kills are pretty non graphic and we just see a lot of aftermath shots. That's until the tape scene, holy fuck that was hard to watch and extremely uncomfortable. I don't' know what it is about filming a VHS tape playing on an old TV but it made that scene feel more real and raw compared to if we were just in the room as it actually happened. Plus there's the nasty finale which was obviously coming but still just as fucked to watch as you thought it was going to be. Great film that I will rarely revisit.

Prisoners of Ghostland dir by Sion Sono

Well this was an interesting one. Sion Sono is a director who I love to watch, he's on the same level as Miike, batshit crazy with varying quality of films and he makes a fuck ton. Everything about this one is terrible but it feels very purposefully terrible. Nic Cage is mostly looking confused and it mostly works for the film he's in. Very clearly a much younger and fit double during the more strenuous action scenes. All of the Asian actors are acting at 11 for every scene, purposefully speaking in bad over enunciated English. But a lot of them also speak in Japanese as well. Sets are actually really awesome, even though there's pretty much 3 sets in the whole film. It's a really baffling film that I recommend checking out just to see what the fuck is gonna happen. Bill Mosley chews up his scenes playing The Governor. Mediocre movie elevated by it's own strangeness.

Hellbound dir by Yeon Sang-ho

I loved this mini series, it's 6 hour long episodes from the director of Train to Busan. The basic premise is that all of a sudden Angels begin appearing and giving a decree of death to people saying they are bound for hell in "x amount of days", then three creatures from hell arrive at the designated time, brutally beat the person and incinerate them. This brings on the formation of a cult around this who basically begin to build power based on how they manipulate the circumstances. It's fascinating, well acted and just incredibly entertaining. The CG is a bit rough but honestly it's with in the realm of believability of the world so you just kind of roll with it. I highly recommend checking this out, it's much better than the overly hyped Squid Games.

As a person holding The Mangler in one hand and Spontaneous combustion in the other I am forbidden from fighting any one defending "bad" 90's horror films.
