Yep, that's dead lovely. I have a digital version of that comp which I enjoy spinning every so often. Good stuff.

@vi_res - is that the new reissue of Fire Walk With Me? Glad to hear you are enjoying it.

Riding into a sunny holiday weekend with some Yuji Ohno:

You & The Explosion Band's cover of John Carl Paker's theme for the CHiPs TV show is an early 80's discofunk delight:

Parker also composed the theme for Dallas. This track keeps on chugging for almost seven minutes! The LP must have been cut to get this opening track out on the dancefloors. I blame my parents for getting me into these themes back in the 80's. It brings back a lot of fond memories though. CHiPs must have also been popular in Japan, as this is the only dedicated vinyl release I could find for the show/theme. Also, there is some dubbed dialogue and songs in Japanese, along with sound fx and clips from the show. I am not sure if it's a tribute album, or if any of this music was used for a Japanese TV version. Great jazzfunk, as always, from Ohno-san.

@deaf I've had my eye on that Chips for a while but haven't pulled the trigger on it. Is the rest of the LP pretty decent?

Still can't believe Chris Cornell is gone. I was supposed to be at a Soundgarden concert in Dallas tonight... Just a really sad situation. Been spinning this one, Temple of the Dog, and the Mad Season Live with Seattle Symphony (he sang the Layne Staley vocals at that show)

Of course that means someone will announce a re-issue next week.
Now, I won't pry too much, Static, but I must know: Did you break your PR for dollars spent on an LP to get this?

On topic...did any of you bums spot this? I dont collect pins, but dayumm!

Man, that is the sweet, sweet stuff of memory right there. For weeks, I dreamt - nay, nightmared - on that well-worn cover in my small town New England library as a lad. With that Hell and chrome logo and King perched on the hood of his own Plymouth like some backwater rockabilly gargoyle. It took several trips to pluck up the courage to borrow that tome. Chrtistine was the first of many Stephen King books I read in my youth and it is one of the (very) few that stick with me to this day. I felt close to terrified, yet compelled to read that novel.

Yes! I notoriously (amongst my fam and friends at least) read Christine over a dozen times as a lad. And when the film happened I watched that a dozen times or more too. There was always just something about that story which struck multiple nerves for me. To this day, the scenes where they trash Christine/Arnie discovers the aftermath are almost unbearable to watch. So strange......it's just a car....and a demonically haunted one at that.....why should it be so affecting....yet the writing, direction and performance are unbelievable. It crushes.

Only 15% over budget? That sounds like a win to me, Static. Just ask any city planner.

@tim - Excellent! The original poster art is just fantastic to see as well.

@texas - Sad news about Chris Cornell, and you even had tickets for the show, wow. Feels like a run of bad news lately.

Regarding the CHiPs LP, it's an odd mix of jazzfunk burners cut with audio and dialogue clips from show, including a focus on recordings of the Kawasaki 1000P engine in action, haha. The back of the paper insert is a photo and tech info sheet on the bike itself. Other than the main theme, the standout cuts are on the flip if you don't mind the mixed samples, and there are also a few downtempo pop tunes. For disco fans of the main theme or You & The Explosion Band completists, it's probably worth the time for $20 or less. Anybody have recommendations on where to start with Lupin The Third?

@static - Excellent score on Christine! It seems the only copies available at all are the German pressings. I have never seen a US pressing in the wild.

@Mateo, @ScoJo, et all - Great to read the stories from fellow King readers. I now feel that she needs a fresh read...

Had this for many years unboxed - the time has come to roll it off the production line...

Shitters!

Polystyrene cement is just about the best smell in the world. Except maybe for pussy.
