Mateo Sanboval wrote:Is the b&w definitive version a different cut or is it the theatrical cut mastered in black and white?@Mateo - It's the same cut, but this quote from Miller shows a preference for the b&w coloring:
“One thing I’ve noticed is that the default position for everyone is to de-saturate post-apocalyptic movies,” he told Slashfilm. “There’s only two ways to go, make them black and white — the best version of this movie is black and white, but people reserve that for art movies now. The other version is to really go all-out on the color. The usual teal and orange thing? That’s all the colors we had to work with. The desert’s orange and the sky is teal, and we either could de-saturate it, or crank it up, to differentiate the movie.”More info:

I might just watch this before going to sleep. Btw, anyone got the High Octane Mad Max Collection on blu ray and can comment on it ?It's cool, Nate. You'll enjoy it. Unbelievably, I don't have any Mad Max on Blu-ray. I need to amend that forthwith.
The annual Sanboval Valentine's viewing tradition is underway (a day early due to work commitments and the like)! Canada (and coal mining) here we come!

I'm surprised it's been oop for so long now. By all accounts, it sold quite well. Perhaps there's a rights issue in play.
PS, for those of you who don't have this on blu, you'll be happy to know now that I've purchased an expensive copy on eBay after waiting for so long, it is almost guaranteed that the cosmos will align and Shout! or Arrow will but put a new version...you are welcome.

I can think of few better Stephen King adaptations in the horror genre (Kubrick's The Shining, Salem's Lot and Misery, if you include that in the genre). I have a friend who believes its the best ending of any horror film - I'm sure I don't agree with that, but the final act is usually the downfall of King adaptations but not this time. If I'm right though, they changed the ending for the film?

It fits the tone of the film, I think.
I've watched both versions and have a slight preference for B&W - the effects are more convincing and the mood is altered a little by being B&W. There's not many horrors I'd recommend to anyone, but this is a recent one that I definitely would.

The Mist is actually my favorite film of that year (2007. wow 10 years already). The ending was changed and King has mentioned that he liked it better than the original ending.
