Well said, @Mateo. It's a wealth of opportunity out there.

Interesting opposing presentations with these two albums from DW/Mondo. I would venture that the Nicolai is more well-known and could have a much larger customer base. The Frizzi score is a bit obscure, and his other works are far more popular. I have listened to the CD release of Scorpion with Two Tails on Cometa for a while now, but I have not seen this album discussed much. In my opinion, the various "melody" main themes are beautiful:

The album also has a vocal number "Living the Past", and there are some really percussive tracks along with a couple dark ambient(ish) electronic tracks. Overall, it's an enjoyable album.

The decision to release a /500 run picture disc is surely to cause discussion here and elsewhere, and I think I will just stay out of it. :) The art object vs audiophile debate will never end. I do like when a standard LP sleeve and jacket is included instead of a PVC sleeve. I have been throwing out any PVC due to all the reports of off-gassing damaging vinyl records.

The Nicolai album looks stunning! Can't wait to pick up a copy. Great stuff, @Spencer.

I knew of anyone in here could do a good sales job on an obscure Frizzi score, it'd be you, Deaf. Picture discs are for closers!

I started with picking and choosing as of the the end of last year. Couldn't justify the Waxwork subscription although I said I would be a Waxwork subscriber for life :-) My focus in collecting is changing every six months or so. And with a maxed out credit card I first need to address that issue and get out of debt before buying a lot more.
That said I will be getting this fantastic Bruno Nicolai score tomorrow as it ticks all my boxes. Love how this looks and sure it will sound fantastic.
On the fence about Assassinio... . I know I want to add this to my collection, because it is Frizzi and Death Waltz. Because of the 500 I'm inclined to get it now. But knowing I won't be playing it a lot I'm not sure yet...
Probably will get the two together with the argument of saving on shipping costs.

Not an altogether unreasonable line of thinking.

In other circumstances, I'd be straight in!
Out of curiosity, flapdoodle (or anyone else), what do DWRC releases end up costing once they land in a UK based brick and mortar or online shop?
Well my local shop has Mondo/DW stuff between 35-45 pounds, so I'm leaving it there. I paid about 35 pounds for 'Shock Waves' as it's a score I absolutely love and similar price for Maniac. They also stock Waxwork and other stuff on Italian labels. Gremlins is about 40 pounds. Naked Lunch was 45, some hitchcock scores are 45. They have an Egisto Macchi LP that's 35 pounds (I managed to get it from Transmission for 18 in the sale!).

Cheers, Flapdoodle. I can see why those prices could give one pause. Thanks for sating my curiousity.

Copped The Case of the Scorpion's Tale, but passed on The Scorpion with Two Tales as expected. Also grabbed up a copy of Ben Lovett's Synchronicity score which I have been streaming like a maniac since before Christmas. I for the life of me do not know how I missed this one when it was released; it's superb.

@Layne - The best convincing you're ever going to find is Deaf's post at the top of the page. Chin chin!

Got both as shipping was only $2 or $3 more for the Frizzi. Including shipping that comes to let's say 40 euro for the double and 35 euro for the picture disc. That's fair enough.
So happy to get my hands on this Bruno Nicolai score!!! Thanks Spencer.
Looking forward to more giallo scores. What do you have up your inked sleeves?!

copped both, I don't LOVE two tails, but some of it is really nice, and deafmetal makes some very good points. call me a completist i guess haha. It also could grow on me tremendously, i was lukewarm on cat in the brain as well, but after the live show a few years back i revisited it and gained a new appreciation.

Went for both, and added 10Cloverfield Lane because I hadn't gotten the chance to buy it yet and it's great (both the movie and the score). I got the Frizzi because 1- my OCD 2- I can brag that my Frizzi collection is better that yours ;) (it's probably not :( )

kidding aside, I checked the soundcloud samples earlier and it does look like a more minor Frizzi release than the others we've had so far.... but it does look interesting enough and I'm curious to hear the rest of it. that third sample song is heavy on cheese man, sounds like a soap TV serie theme. It's both good and bad.

@Nathan - The vocal song is pretty sappy. I think the stand-out tracks are the "melody" themes, but they were not chosen for the sample tracks for some reason. Those themes strike me as classic Frizzi; with his signature bass, flute, strings, and percussion arranged beautifully. I don't expect anybody to put this album up there with The Beyond, Zombi 2, or Paura, but it's worth a listen. I wonder if the decision to release it as a limited picture disc was strategic, as there are still copies of Cat in the Brain for sale on Mondo's website, and you even have a "chance" at black vinyl with that release. Haha, does anybody miss those randomly-inserted variants? ;)

Full disclosure: Frizzi fan, completist, obsessive, etc.

@deaf, i think thats a pretty solid assessment, the vocal track is definitely an artifact of the time, but a lot of the tracks are pure classic Frizzi. As i'm becoming a bit of Frizzi completist these days myself...i understand completely

I don't know if it's just me but I can't play the Fate's Melody video above. Ah well, doesn't matter. I will enjoy discovering the soundtrack when I've received it in the mail and ritualisticaly placed it on the platter with dimmed lights and a glass of liquor.

Nice ! I don't remember the music from Bay of Blood, which I saw last year, but it's Cipriani, and Death Walks on High Heels too. I think I'll stream a bit this weekend, see what they're like, but I'm buying them anyway. The Faces of Death ost is by Genre Kauer, and there's a few clips of music on youtube, like the main theme and end titles. Porno Holocaust is by Nico Fidenco. Instabuy.

Can'T wait to see the artwork for all of those.

The Reason it's a picture disc is because this was originally a tour record for the US , but we had to change production around which is why it came later.

Makes sense. My sleeve was split when it came and I was wary of off gassing so I switched it temporarily to a regular Poly sleeve. Any suggestions on the board on what I can get to preserve it better?

@Hatter - I put picture discs in regular polyethylene inner sleeves and store them in a standard cardboard outer sleeve. I realize this hides the artwork, but I'm too nervous about the PVC issue. I know you can find die-cut PD cardboard sleeves to display the artwork, but I have yet to do so. Something like this:
