@Texas -

...and I'm assuming you're a subscriber??

:D

Now spinning this incredible slice of Norwegian jazz/funk grooviness from '69, featuring a roster of Norwegian jazz all-stars. In this case the hype sticker, she don't lie...
"Cross John barry with Lalo Schifrin. add some Sven Libaek and you have Egil Monn-Iversen!"

This was on my wishlist for a while now, It's a great album. It's got some really cool grooves for a oriental music library album. The Oriental theme is something that I was missing and there's nothing quite like it in my collection. The cover art is not my thing though, and no liner notes, no poster, no gatefold, it's a regular sleeve presentation, I wasn't expecting the music to be so good !

Oriente Oggi is so good. Regular sleeve presentation, but Marco does things right. The jacket is nice heavy stock with soft touch finish and a proper reproduction not a scan and not cheap direct board printing. The album art is really elusive, most original copies floating around do not have the original cover art and are generic company sleeves. Press quality is good since he upgraded plants. I appreciate his attention to details and use of master tapes... as much as the Sonor Music crew and Four Flies are cool guys IMHO they don't put as much love and quality into the releases as what comes out of Cinedelic. Very few of the original library records had gatefold jackets. I probably won't score an original of this, I doubt I will be buying any library OGs anymore!!

Inspired by Nate's haul and Tex's impressions, I went searching for this LP. I almost paid $36 for it, but backed down because of the Holidays, etc. And I ordered some other records earlier today.

@ScoJo - I got them both from a Japanese collection for a fair price, and nowhere near the upper-half range on discogs, which is just crazy. Both albums should be reissued, imho. I am going to need a new copy at some point in the future. :)

Consider your list peeped, mang. In an exciting turn of events after I posted about passing on Oriente Oggi, I looked it up on Amazon they had it listed at $14.51! I double checked to make sure it was the Cinedelic LP and not a CD and ordered it up. My order says shipping today and arriving Saturday so we shall see what turns up.

EDIT - The listing is now at $41 and change so it was probably a pricing error. Fingers crossed.

@Bez - The music on this album is incredible. I have been listening to the CD in my car for many years now, and became more and more obsessed with each spin. Some people might think the main choral theme is cheesy, but I love it. I find it to be completely relaxing and chill af.

If anybody is interested, Frizzi covered this theme (Ibo Lele) on his acoustic album Rewind. Hearing that last year only fanned the flames even more. I haven't even mentioned Kalu' yet... goddamn what a tune. It should have been the B-side on the 45 instead of Coconut!

RIVETING UPDATE #TROIS: ORIENTE OGGI is scheduled to arrive tomorrow (today) [Friday] now instead of Saturday! I can barely wait to be disappointed by the inevitable Laser Light classical CD I'm receiving instead.

@Cult - Critters worship! Nice setup, Alex.

Received a lovely Christmas gift in the post:

A bit speechless at the moment... first impressions are skittering away as I just continue to get lost in the sounds. Whisper-quite pressing from Deutsche Grammophon on inky black wax. The whole vibe of this package is so dark. Thrilled to hear many of the alien sounds from the film are actually parts of the original score, and also interspersed with intriguing sampling (or singing?) of the human voice, but indecipherable. The gatefold sleeve is printed on a softer type board, and scuffs easily, but has an interesting tactile feeling in your hands. Poly-lined inner sleeves, digital download card, overall just a solid, quality release. Very happy with how this one turned out. Highly recommend for a master workshop on alien and beautiful modern classical.

@Cult - That Critter is amazing! In November, I showed Critters 3 & 4 (a continuation from a showing of 1 & 2 earlier this year)at a "bad movie night" that I host locally.

@Deaf - I need Arrival to be here now.

RIVETING UPDATE NUMBER SOMETHING - Oriente Oggi isn't here yet in spite of a promised delivery of last night. It has now been "possibly delayed due to transportation issues" with an expected delivery dat of 12/24-12/27. Hold each other tight tonight, friends, and pray that all hope is not yet lost...
