Looking for some assistance.

Me and some other geeks in work make monthly playlists (on CD) based on a theme chosen by someone in the group.

This month's theme is that all artists must be from New York City.

Anyone have any suggestions of composers of other artists (library, synth, etc) who would fit the bill? The music would need to be available digitally, and its my preference to not buy new music specifically for the playlist, however this might be a good way to discover some new composers/music if I need to invest.

I may keep this topic going for future playlists as well, if you're happy to help.

Sweet mother mercy @chief, that's a tall order.

Genre?
New York city as a whole, and I mean even Staten Island?

What about whose members aren't from NYC but the band started in NYC, i.e. Velvet Underground or something like that

I mean, the Ramones spring immediately to mind

Misfits are from Jersey (but we like to claim them anyway most of the time)

I mean you could go all the way from Dion and the Belmonts to Kiss to Blondie to The New York Dolls to White Zombie, even though some of the members of those bands may not be from NYC, they were formed in NYC, so does that count?

Broad category, we get too many people of all walks who come here from other parts of the world and set down roots, especially musicians, that it's hard to even begin a list like that.

BUT! that being said, if i were to suggest a criteria of all (or least the majority of) members being New Yorkers born and bred, and being a true example of our schtick here, that might narrow it down.

@hatter, thanks for your reply. Yes, I was looking for score/instrumental recommendations, or just if anyone knew composers from NYC. I didn't one Disasterpeace was from NY, so that's a start.

Most of my playlist will be rock, folk, whatever, which brings about exactly the type of challenges you mention - is it birthplace, whether part of the 'scene', etc. Its a nightmare. Usually the themes are pretty broad, like 'colours'...

I think my interest in scores/electronic music is different from the other participants, but I must confess, such geography is usually not something I concern myself with when it comes to music!

Hey folks

It's time for a new playlist at work. This month's 'theme' is tracks with drum intros.

Any ideas?
