Hey all!

I have been collecting soundtracks for about a year, but am only getting my first turntable tomorrow (U-Turn Orbit Plus). I'm going to be playing a lot of my Death Waltz and Waxwork records for the first time. What does everyone think about the "clean before 1st play" policy? Do I really need to clean each of these brand new records? I can understand brushing off the dust and paper debris from the sleeve, but do they really need a "wet" clean? Thoughts?

I have been buying records for 25 years and I didn't start cleaning any of them until I got a record vacuum cleaner 3 or 4 years ago.

Then I was cleaning everything new when I got , but I've been lazy lately so I only clean them if the sound is off.
It does preserve the life of the needle and the vinyl.

A lot of the color vinyl releases have more dust and debris than black so those mostly warrant it.

I have a VPI and like monsterworship I have gotten lazy with feeling the need to machine clean a record right away - I go a simpler route right off the bat and I start with the Mark 6 Carbon Fiber Record Brush then a Gruv Glide application and most of the time it is good...and if not I'll give it a machine clean right away just to make sure it is not a hacked Lp - Sadly I've been pretty unlucky this year with bad Lps so alot of the initial cleans have been warranting a machine clean...and not always with satisfactory results - In past experience I've found the ginchier and / or the more colors the vinyl is the more it needs to be cleaned
