Deep Cut Record 19 - Ron & Val Taylor's Inner Space by Sven Libaek
Votary Records, 2012
In 1973 celebrated underwater photographers Ron and Valerie Taylor, who helped shoot the documentary film BLUE WATER, WHITE DEATH and would later shoot real live shark footage for use in JAWS, had a television show called RON & VAL TAYLOR'S INNER SPACE. Running for thirteen episodes, the series was narrated by William Shatner.
Scoring INNER SPACE was Australian composer Sven Libaek, who produced a beautiful variety of tunes for the show, with some great jazz tunes. The soundtrack had an original release on Festival Records in 1983, and was reissued by Votary in 2013 (a compilation of Libaek's work called Inner Space: The Lost Music of Sven Libaek was released on Trunk Records in 2006)
You will recognise some of INNER SPACE from the Wes Anderson film THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU, as many cues from the show were used in the film to score Steve Zissou's faux-documentaries. The Votary LP is excellent.
