Mondo does random and people bitch.

That Syro thing is pretty ridiculous. It is the same release as the standard retail but with a 12x12 art print and housed in a clear plastic box with a silk screen on the front of the box. + $400 for the plastic box and 12x12 art print. I suspect a lottery is overkill with a whacko price like that, but who knows, people seem keen on throwing lots and lots of money away on RDJ stuff.

And if only that list could be filtered out to remove the people who only want to buy this so they can immediately list on ebay...

I think some folks would bitch regardless of the way the variants were handled. The one major upside for the completely random method is that there's no "need" to be there the moment an album goes up for preorder. You can at least avoid the immediate log jam.

That being said I don't run a site or anything so maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about :)

Another quality FB post:

"Can't help but think this tactic is being used by al the record labels. Whipping people up, making them insane. Websites don't go down just because your getting a few thousand hits in the space of 30 mins. Perhaps if you got it within 30 seconds..."

It's all a giant conspiracy! Just like the moon landing. Waxwork is totally using a botnet to DDOS their own website in master troll fashion!

I agree with the Aphex Twin release, it would have to be a one off for me to spend that much, not one of a 100.

Yes, but Mondo's website doesn't crash, it loads slow on the big drops, but it never crashes (at least not that I can remember). I'm not faulting Waxwork, as they're relatively new to the game, you can't predict everything, and shit happens; I get that. I would say however that this is the biggest title they've done, and this is day two, and we're all still waiting. I'm sure they did prepare for this, and I'm sure they know now they could have prepared a little more.

Moving on from that. At this point, a lottery for the blood filled variant would take some heat off the site, since that's obviously what people are crazy for. Also, a lottery is a little different than random variant inserts, leading people to buy several copies trying to get one. That's a sales tactic Mondo created that I've given up buying into.

@ronwell: perhaps you should review your own posts HERE

Waited all this time, ordered immediately after they worked out what was obviously going to be a problem in the first place with their website and overpaid for shipping only to receive a run of the mill clear copy I could have bought at a local record store. So lame! FU Waxwork!

"Seems kinda moronic to think there will not be much demand for a 200 count only record of a high demand soundtrack with a first time method of pressing. Again, for them to not expect this says a lot about who’s running Waxwork."

I’m doing the same @RyanPlugs. The more I think about this the more disappointed I am in Waxwork at how they are treating people.

Yup, forgive my insolence to the almighty WAXWORK.

Remind me why I don't care about variants. Oh yeah... Never been a fan of intern blood anyway.

personally, i never wanted the filled vinyl, sounds very cool, but not my thing. i did have a mind for the splatter or the split though, so I wish there would be some announcement. i ordered the murky green already from a retailer, but i always prefer to buy directly form the label when i can. I feel soooo bad for the people at waxwork though.

to Waxwork, if you haven't cried off reading these posts here yet:

I'd like to say that most of us here, 2 days of frustrating delays aside, really appreciate you guys, and can only imagine how frustrating this must be for you as well as us. Good luck, and when it finally drops i'm sure it will be a truly awesome release. thanks again.

Alright, see everyone later, i'm off.

Frustrated at trying to buy a record? Imagine being this guy: " So, I sold everything I had, and that barely got me enough funds to pay for the Re-Animator jackets"

Exactly. Anyone complaining about waxworks and attacking them (not so much here, more those really out of control FB comments) should ready that interview. It was great

Yeah, I don't think anyone here is attacking them. We're frustrated, but for the most part, are being rational and constructive here. The Facebook posts are pretty bad.

In some ways I understand all the frustrations. The people who run small record labels do not live in the same world as me. If I don't hit my deadlines at work then my head is on the block & I'll maybe lose my job. Indie record labels have a get out clause because they don't have anyone to answer to except their customers, who are generally very understanding...

Facebook update seems to suggest we might be in business sooner rather than later...

Still vague enough though.

Updates are coming through on Twitter, but no mention of when it will be on sale.

Waxwork on Twitter:

We're back up and running on numerous servers. We are aware that many of you have been waiting for two days.

We anticipated a large spike in traffic, and we have recently beefed up our site, but it simply didn't handle the amount of traffic received.

We can guarantee that this release will be incredible and worth it. Thanks for sticking with us through this!

Didn't WW post somewhere that they were going to release a liquid filled version of Re-Animator?

ive been logged in and sites been refreshing fine for me for the past few hours , ill be honest id said from day one i was gonna try for the blood filled because i was intrigued what it looked like, but really didnt expect id be able to get one, perhaps in hind site releasing some mock ups of the different versions earlier on may have put off atleast a small portion of people that were intrigued more than anything to see how cool it was.

ive spent the past day trying to think of a better solution if possible (remebering how much praise was put on WW with the creepshow launch) and the only other route i could think of was a timed preorder/maid to order not unlike third mans vault packages or what spencer has done with the B2B subscription. (a week to order the versions you want and then they are produced to order) but i suppose alot of the drama has been cause because we know its limited to 100.

also im sure WW, Spence or OWS can confirm theres normally quite strict production run limits imposed by the rights holder (certainly on the Bigger studios / well known releases)

I don't really get the point of insisting in trying to sell this record asap...I mean, shit happens and after two days of battling is not enough? Take some days off (to test the web improvement) and delay the sell of one week, it's the only way to ease the tension...every real "Spinners" here understand the hard work behind our fave labels but after two days like this people starts to be a little angry...Anyway I'm not angry, I just wanna to go sleep 'cause it's getting late here in GMT+1 and yesterday I waited until 2 am... enough it's enough!

Are they trying to post it ASAP? Not super clear from their posts. Oh well, I'm going to stay at the keyboard in hopes they post it soon.

The fact that the shopping cart still doesn't work doesn't bode well...

Now THAT would make people go apeshit, a drop with no one able to checkout.

Just tried it, and the cart seems to be working. I did get one 503 server error, but one refresh got me to the last screen with the 'Place Order' button. I was also able to login without resetting my password which is another good sign. Proceed with the droppage and let the chaos ensue!!
