Not sure how many of you guys might be into house music, but I've really gotten into it over the last two years. I use to hate the term because I associated it with cheesy techno, club music, etc. It is definitely club/dance music - but with the strong emergence of deep house, African house, etc...there are so many styles to house music, it is not easy encapsulated whatsoever.

I was hoping this thread could be for any of us that are really into it to talk about albums, make suggestions, and give heads up on new releases.

One brand new house album I cannot stop spinning is Crystal Cult 2080 by Legowelt. I use to not be into Legowelt at all, and still can't really get into some of his older work - but this album is just beautiful. Definitely has some horror score vibes mixed into it as well. It is a dark but enjoyable deep house album. Even has a little acid mixed into it. I mean damn...look at that album cover!

Those last two songs are from a 12" that was released by , which is one hell of a house music label.W.T. Records (click for bandcamp)

Frances Bebey is cool, didn't realise that was house music, i remember reading somewhere that the KLF were house as well!

@philball1974 - Bebey is definitely great, but his actual music wouldn't be considered house music at all. After his recent reissue and resurge of fame, a 12" of house remixes came out - and that is where the song above came from.

KLF was super great, I don't think you could consider all their work house music - as they changed styles quite often, but a good portion of their music could definitely fall under house. I don't think they could be confined to any genre though, they were just too creative and diverse. What a group!

If there was an appetite for it, it would actually be a good idea to have a top level category called "other music Genres" where we could have create threads for stuff.

I looked on Wikipedia on a few of the dance acts i like and they are categorised as.. Electronic, Dubstep, Glitch, IDM and minimal techno!

The best of them all being Modrat!!

I always much preferred Techno, Detroit to be specific.

The lines are so much more blurred today, I never really know what anything is any more.

The last "house" records I bought were probably Kolsch, Floating Points, Todd Terje, Prins Thomas and some of the Claremont 56 stuff on vinyl. Not really sure if they fit under house but guess they do, so I would highly recommend both the Jon Hopkins and Daniel Avery albums. Think I mentioned them on another thread.

Talking of house, I picked up E-Dancer's Heavenly & Ten City's Foundation on vinyl this week. Classic. I would recommend Inner City's first album but I was always disappointed by the quiet pressing.

edit: inner city's first. Inner City=Kevin Saunderson=E-Dancer and a million and one other aliases.

ya, I got the re-press in the post today, then I get an email saying there's a new 12" OUT TODAY OMG MUST BUY. To be fair, it sounds decent so I will probably pop on it.

I like a lot of the cosmic disco/krautrock/druggy house type stuff. Currently listening to the Time and Space Machine (ex grid) mixes of Jagwar Ma. I loved the Weatherall mix of theirs too. Great 12"

Don't know much about house, but HUGE Legowelt freak here, i think that i own around 80 of Danny's 12''! Everyone here should check "The Rise and Fall of Manuel Noriega", not house, but just pure awesomeness!!

@orbtastic - I saw that new Floating Points too yesterday, the sample sounds great...it sounds like a must have.

@albatard - Thanks for that suggestion...I've never really researched his back catalog much, and that Manuel Noriega album sounds really damn good after hearing some samples. I hate that they split it across two different records though...it would be much nicer as a set!

I've had a large house/dance music interest for a long time, not so much recently, but particularly the mid to late 90's and early 2000's. I have been a massive fan of Sasha & Digweed too (renaissance, northern exposure, global underground etc). I first got into the scene in the late 80's...House Master Boyz, Frankie Knuckles etc.

One of my progressive house/trance favs is the following...

Paragliders/Oliver Lieb circa '98

Loved this one too...

The Chemical Brothers aka Dust Brothers circa '93...they had to change their name, this Weatherall mix was the nuts!

One from the old skool...and my clubbing days!

'90 and with that Italian House piano...I still love that piano sound!

My fav Sasha set from 1999, Intenz, Holland

Ha, can't beat some piano.

I have some early Sasha mixes on vinyl, they still sound so clean/fresh now.

I don't really frequent clubs very regularly these days, or sadly buy that many 12" singles.

However I went to an underground nightspot a couple of weeks ago & heard this track playing on a more than adequate soundsystem. It kind of blew my mind, so I went out & bought it myself.

I think this will certainly appeal to people on the forum.

Ps. The 12" vinyl is an extended version of this, it's 7 or 8 minutes. Proper!

@peek-a-boo - oh my god this is SO good! Seriously, thank you for suggesting this. These are the kinds of weird techno / house music that I crave. It is honestly making me want to become a DJ for special events to just play music like this. Minimalist dance music is just really exciting to me...for whatever weird reason it might be.
