I totally second Mr DWs appraisal - my COTLD BB is very cool and I'm top happy with it. However, I'm compelled to make a wee complaint - the spine doesn't work for me at all. No title, no composer, no quote - just the DW web address.
This really irks me, and I know it shouldn't (in the big scheme of how great the rest of the package is!!), but that's my honest reaction so take it to heart or toss it in the trash. There's a couple things about it really: it get's completely lost on the shelf for one. And - (here's where I get cranky, so please view this constructively)...I just think that it should always be TITLE first, very closely followed by COMPOSER, and lastly LABEL. In priority terms that is. This seems (subconsciously/accidentally or for whatever other reason) to relegate the former BENEATH the latter, and that don't fly with Disco Man.

(deep breath. listens to music again. everything all good)

Yeah, the flippers already have them up on ebay. There is a special level of Hell awaiting such people.

Spencer,
Just wondering if subbers or customers here in US. should be expecting our copies we ordered. I ordered the deluxe, the red vinyl, as well as I should be getting my Subbers copy of the Subscription 4. I received my copies of COTLD from "Private Records" last week, so I was just wondering when DW should be getting here.

Thanks!!

Yes and they have 3 copies for sale? I thought it was a max of 2 per customer?

::takes the consolation ice cream cone and sighs:: Okay... I STILL like that one though. ;)

Oh, the no title on the spine is going to bug me BIG time. I hate not finding things. Is it on the wraparound obi? I kept the ones from RSD and put them around the spine because they had the title. That was one thing that bugged me about some of the other titles too, like the new york ripper; it has a quote on the side instead. I know now what it is, but for a bit, every time I saw it I was like "What the hell is that?"

(brief aside @discosucks - I am a big enough nerd that I print up a slip of paper for my LPs with insufficient spine markings. sad but true.)

The only Death Waltz releases that have the titles on the spine are The Fog, Maniac, Assault on Precinct 13 and the Goblin Tour EP. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone about the quotes, that's something he's done since the beginning.

ha, I actually love the quotes on the spine - I'm bummed it hasn't been for 100% of the releases. :)

See I'm relatively new to death waltz, so most of the ones I have HAVE titles on the spine, minus ripper and RSD (which I fixed with the obi). I don't own every release that's come out since I started collecting their label, so maybe it's been pure luck most of the ones I've bought have had titled spines. I'm glad I have the sub now and won't be missing out though!

@milliondollars

Ah, yet to receive my 'deluxe' (watching the post today) but from your shot the plain red transparent looks a better match for the centre label?

This reminds me of a peeled orange for some reason.

Just curious, how many OST's are on your shelves to make a no titles spine an issue?
I mainly collect 45s so I store and view mine from front on. I love the plaide finish I think the artwork looks like a Mark Ryden on canvas.
Actually a Mark Ryden for Nekromantik box set would set my angels free!

About music...is that someone finds the new configuration of tracks on this edition really changed the mood of the soundtrack?

I think I have about 3000 records or so, with maybe 10 different genre sections. I haven't had any problems laying my hands on the Death Waltz records which don't have the album titles on the spines, but I am a bit OCD with my filing system...

Hey @picnic, if that's directed at me (original poster on this "spine" malarky...) well....

I have around 5000 soundtracks on vinyl. Half are stored in crates, front on. The rest are shelved.

Tbh, not being able to easily find them isn't the most irksome thing. My gut just reacts with "why wouldn't you put the
film title/composer on the spine?"

Honestly though, I'm over it. Interesting as it is to see other people's thoughts on such things, I just happen
to know I'm right on this one ;)

haha......

So to DW and any other labels who are planning to play silly buggers with their spine labelling....pack it in!!

I just put a bunch of whiteout/tippex on the spine and then write the following on it:

Title, Artist, Label, other comments (eg excellent, crap, scratched, rude pictures in gatefold etc)

I can then find anything I want and as a bonus no-one wants to steal them.

I don't understand why anyone would be moaning about us not putting the titles on our spines at this point in time , we've been doing this since day one.
I always wanted to do this and am very glad I did !

I do the same @lazyben - except I deliberately write the wrong title/composer, just to fuck with myself. And a made up quote from an imaginary film, just for good measure.
