The reason I wasn't spinning a lot of records was because out of the 6 decks I have only one was without issues. I can fix some of the others but didn't want to spend the time doing it. Maybe I still will in the future.
However, I did went looking for a new simpler player. The B&O's I have are too difficult because of all the electronics. I wanted a fully manual direct drive, like my only working Technics SL-1800, but then better looking and more special.

I found this Luxman PD-262 with a Grado Gold element near where my stepson lives (200k from my home). It was from a collector who wanted to slim his collection. Completely recapped and with a Grado Gold element.
It is absolutely stunning. And while I type this the first record I am playing on it is still spinning. The difference in sound quality with the Technics and the basis AT cartridge it has is insane. Wasn't even considering that when getting this...
Very happy and now hoping it won't break :-)

That table looks awesome! Congrats on the pickup, I didn't even realize Luxman made turntables, my receiver is a Luxman and I love it.

I recently made some changes to my set up. I decided to retire my towers I've had for 15+ years. I built new shelving and bought a set of bookshelf speakers, Ascilab CB6. These things are some of the best rated (from a technical standpoint) in their price range. And while it's been a bit of an adjustment since the low end is definitely lacking (the towers had two 8" drivers in them for low end) these do sound fantastic

Here's a pic of when I installed the new shelving, the one on the right which is empty in the photo is already half full, I transferred two full cubes from the right shelves to them plus some extras

thanks! it's been a slow process converting this set up over to the ones I built. My eldest cat passed away back in the fall and he was the reason I didn't swap out anything on the bottom for new ones bc he loved to chew on the plastic jackets. Now that he's gone it's time to replace those black kallax, which will probably be done this summer. Not looking forward to completely removing all the records and breaking down the system though

@inks enjoy your new setup, a half-completed rearrangement is a joy in itself. My OCD however cannot sanction those partially overlapped picture frames. Ulp. 😅

Bez - Lovely deck!! I have never owned a Luxman Deck...mainly Denon's over the years. I am a big fan of Lux products and have had many over the years as far as amps and tuners. Reading your joy with the new sound is making me think about it! :)

I got an amp and tuner to go with it a couple of weeks ago.
Unfortunately last weekend after playing a 45 rpm record, when I switched the speed back to 33, something broke... Probably a capacitor in the 33rpm speed circuit. Not a difficult fix, but when I got this turntable I was hoping to not have to fix anything soon...

Thankfully the amp has 2 phono ins, so I'll hook up my bulletproof technics as well.

I picked up this Pioneer RT-707 for kind of a restoration project. I've always loved the low-profile look of it. It's kind of a mess both cosmetically and functionality-wise. There is a bunch of stuff wrong with it I can already see, and I have not really looked into it yet. On the surface, there are lots of frame dings and side rail damage due to being screw-mounted. The bonnet has a bunch of pits and some deep scratches; a couple of buttons are broken as well. Function-wise, I can already see some bulbs are out, the counter belt is not working, the auto-stop is very delayed, and the brake tension is an issue also, as the reels stop unevenly.

The good thing is the heads are in amazing condition—almost brand-new looking. I did give it a little listen, and it does play and actually sounded really nice, even in this neglected state. So, it will be interesting to see if I can bring this thing back.

First thing is to open it up and start a deep cleaning today.

Thanks... I was hoping I'd get lucky and see a beautifully clean interior, which happens sometimes, but that wasn't the case here. It is really filthy inside. I definitely need to spend some time just cleaning the interior, but it'll be good to learn my way around it.

I'm a putz, but the seller of these bulbs is even a bigger putz. They're too big, even though they were listed as being the specific bulb for the RT-707 directional arrow lights. Now, of course, I could be Count Hackula and just bore that housing out to make them fit, but I'm not going to do that.

Granted, it's a six-dollar set of bulbs and I can use them for another amp but no victory lap today. The 707 will go back into its coffin.

Cleaned the faceplate with aluminum polish, which took off a bunch of old grime. Almost all of the dings and scratches are on the edging, which I hope to frame over with a wood cabinet overhang lip or some kind of molding—which I'll decide later on how I want to approach. It should end up looking pretty minty, as the central part of the faceplate is in excellent condition.

The back cabinet cover was cleaned, then lightly sanded and wiped down. I gave it a coat of primer and then sprayed two or three light coats of satin black to match the original look. It came out well and looks factory new. More items on order that should be arriving next week.
