I really enjoyed Xtro but have not brought myself to watching either of the sequels, maybe one day

I watched a few things this weekend

Intruder (1989) - I don't know why I haven't seen this little slasher before, I've been aware of it but didn't know who was involved which was the reason I finally watched it. It's a fucking blast and I loved it. It's goofy, stylish and has some incredible effects work

Time and Tide - Tsui Hark film that I have been meaning to get around to for ages, I had intended to buy the Eureka bluray back when it released and I never did. Now it's OOP. I really enjoyed this one, it seems to have some of that mid 90's Wong Kar Wai style to it but filtered through Hark's lens. It's a bit scattershot story wise, stuff doesn't always make sense and everything is always going a mile a minute but it comes together in an entertaining way that just works

Green Snake (1993) - Another Hark film, this time focusing on a bit of myth/legend, I think it's an interpretation of folk tale. This one has that HK fantasy look that you saw in the 80's/early 90's. Some really fun puppet work and a charming cast. Maggie Chung is the Green Snake character. Apparently there's a new 4k restoration and Hark went in and digitally removed the puppets replacing them with CG which is a baffling decision, that was part of the films charm. Such a bummer to hear that

Strange Harvest - faux serial killer documentary, honestly well executed and they really stuck with the format which I appreciated as I feel like a lot of folks have been deviating from it in their attempts at this type of film. Nothing ground breaking but some pretty brutal killings and imagery mixed in with what looks like a bad early 00's TV documentary

I youtubed it tonight...its bad! I knew when I saw that the Army Major's desk was in the middle of an abandoned warehouse it was a slim budget. One of the female leads would also go cross-eyed every six or seven words. The Alien was cool and some of the old footage was alright. Traces of the plot reminded me oddly of an old tv movie called Killdozer were a group of construction workers go to a deserted island to set up and airfield that an alien comet crashed at. Anyway one time watch for me...but it does have some enjoyable crap in it.

As a follower of the whole backrooms thing from the start, I was very intrigued (and had concerns) about a well budgeted feature film version with an Oscar-caliber actor, and the inevitable ‘more explaining’ that comes with the expansion of a short film.
I have plenty to say about the results but will just briefly say that it’s definitely one to see. The Kane kid did good.

As someone who doesn’t have a clue about backrooms except seeing it ‘trending’ in places , I am extra curious after your comment.

I've only ever seen the original "short" and have zero clue about all the follow up stuff + lore. Even so I am excited to see it. Great to see a very young director given a chance to prove themselves. Seeing some one so young create a fairly memorable horror film reminds me of Don Coscarelli w/ Phantasm. Obviously a very different climate in Hollywood but still great to see


In other news I watched Zu Warriors From Magic Mountain by Tsui Hark, holy hell what a fantastic film. Absolutely incredible wire work and tons of amazing special effects. I highly encourage any one who hasn't seen it to make it a priority watch

Lee Cronin's The Mummy was awful. It's more of a possession movie, there were a few times I felt like were more appropriate for an Evil Dead film, turns out he directed Evil Dead Rise. This film is 2h15m long and there's very little here outside of a few interesting vfx gags that are worth your time. Not recommended


Hokum on the other hand I loved, while I think it's my least favorite from Damian McCarthy it's almost as good as his previous two. He does such a great job making his films feel unsettling just by his set design. I really enjoyed Adam Scott in the lead role playing an absolute prick

That's the truth maybe one run was enough:) Tons of bad movie bliss in this one and I love the Statue of Liberty scene. A perfect Saturday afternoon movie to throw on.

Watched Forbidden Fruits last night, was entertaining for the most part. It's very much a modern take on The Craft so take that how ever you will. It's 4 girls either late teens or early twenties in a sort of witch coven thing dealing with a lot of social pressure and power struggles


I've been watching a serial killer/cop series called The Chestnut Man which has been very brutal and incredibly engaging. These types of shows are not usually my style but this one has pulled me in

Tonight we are going to watch the new 4k transfer of Slither from Scream Factory, it's one of my wifes favorite movies and the first physical media she's bought herself in years

I Love Boosters was excellent, some really fantastic stuff in there from a set design and effects standpoint, great cast, excellent writing & directing too. I didn't watch a trailer for this one and went in blind only knowing it was the director of Sorry To Bother You which I really enjoyed
