@ScoJo that is a movie I might get my girlfriend to watch… Will try to check it out.

I finished this one. Let’s call it a pretty bad movie. But I did get some enjoy out of it because I was trying to image how the actors must have felt afterwards.

Maybe a stupid question... but I am trying to make some room on my hard drives and I see I have all three of the Hobitt movies. However I have never seen them. Are they fun?
I loved the Lord of the Rings when they came out. Never watched the extended cuts only the theatrical. I have the Extended Cuts for the Hobbit trilogy. Watch them or not?

I really dislike the Hobbit films, they are a bloated mess that add nothing to the original story. You may want to watch yourself just to see what you think but I recommend checking out M4 Book edit of the trilogy which cuts it down to a 4 hour movie and makes it much more palatable imo

Thank you for this. I am deleting my copies then :-)
That M4 edit looks very well done and interesting. If I am going to give the Hobbit a watch I will check that version out.

Watch it yesterday together with my girlfriend. I liked it. Clearly giallo inspired. Even with a closeup of her wearing black leather gloves.
My girlfriend couldn’t take some of tenser moments which was pretty fun to see.
Thanks for pointing me towards this one.

An another note, the day before yesterday we watched Shoot the Moon with Diane Keaton and Albert Finney. Didn’t realize until it finished it was directed by Alan Parker. And only then I realized what other movies he directed… gives me an excuse to rewatch Angel Heart together soon :-)

After 30 minutes of Terrifier 3 I am wondering why I don’t get the back story…
Apparently I only watched the first one and not the second Terrifier. Oh well.
Great to see Tom Savini as a cameo in this one!

Steven E De Souza TV movie sequel, very fun though he definitely owes Harlan Ellison some A-Boy-And-His-Dog monies. I may well double bill it with the very great film adaptation in fact.

K-9000 also has an awesome Jan Hammer score!

I watched Cloud last night, that was quite good. I had no idea where it was going and how weird Kurosawa would go. Oddly he kept it pretty straight forward

Agreed….. up until that final scene which I found astonishing and threw everything into much more allegorical relief. Really comes out of nowhere since, as you say, it’s otherwise quite a straightforward crime drama akin to others he has made.

Last night it had to be Lost Highway. I’d been supersick in bed all day and started it around 4am , headphones cranked as loud as they could handle. Completely kicked my ass, just an incredible experience every time I see it.

Is the Blue Rose cut worth checking out?

Definitely. It doesn’t use all of The Missing Pieces (unlike the Q2 Edit), only the material that deepens and expands on Laura’s story. So there’s very little that feels out of place or too much of a digression, and overall it just heightens the experience and somehow makes it all the more harrowing. It’s worth it for the expanded ‘Pink Room’ sequence which feels endless and becomes truly nightmarish.

Finally got to watch Poor Things and Heretic.

Absolutely loved Poor Things. Now I really need to get that score.

Heretic I found to be excellent as well. Especially the first half.

My girlfriend had never seen The Birds and for me it had been a very long time as well. I couldn't remember the story about why Tipi went to Bodega Bay in the first place. Really enjoyed it. And what brilliant movie making.
I am going to watch more Hitchcock this year. Excellent stuff for a Sunday matinee. And a lot of his movies I haven't seen yet.

We watched Heretic this weekend as well. It kind of went exactly where I expected it to go which honestly was kind of a good thing bc I was a little worried they would try and do a drastic "twist". Great performance from Hugh Grant who I'm generally not much a fan of

Getting my Plissken on.

And watching a cool little film called Jaws. Heard of it?

I don’t call this a hot take, but…. I say this: if Bruce the shark had been super realistic and brilliantly pulled off and flawless, the film would have absolutely been an X. And although still a hit, wouldn’t have been the global phenomenon that it became, and therefore the world would not have changed.
The shark being jank in a few crucial spots actually saved the film. So that it didn’t become TOO harrowing. I swear, Quint’s death would be unwatchable with a realistic shark.

This, to all those who frequently bring up the old ‘maybe Spielberg could update the effects’ nonsense.

Hello Mr Plissken! Hope you will recover swiftly.

And I agree with your take about Bruce.

I watched the 4K upgraded version of The Birds on Sunday and some of those images and attacks looked vicious. I can imagine that at the time people could feel shocked by it. However a lot of effects didn't age that well.
And they used real birds for some scenes where nowadays they probably wouldn't be allowed to do so.

The more I think of it, my The Birds analogy doesn't work the same as how your Jaws one is intended. It is more of an example how things have changed between then and now.
For better and for worse.
