Rebel Ridge dir by Jeremy Saulnier

I absolutely loved this one. Saulnier knows how to shoot a damn film. The lead here is excellent. Highly recommend checking this out if you're a fan of Saulnier and/or tense thriller's

Love me a horror anthology, this late 80s one passed me by somehow.

Another dip into anthology, it’s a mid 90s flick with James Marsden and Amy Smart so, sure I’ll bite. Expecting a big Scream/Urban Legend vibe!

I haven’t seen any of those anthologies but I do have the score to Deadtime Stories released by Terror Vision.

I am halfway through Silent Rage and now I want to watch more Ron Silver movies…

Correct response! If it’s been a while since Blue Steel, well worth revisiting- I love him in that.

And in case this passed you by somehow….

Well that was certainly…. a movie. Heh.

Ok so my anthology watching continues. I have this bunch in the bank, but are there any I’m missing that are recommended? My list is light on the Hammer/Amicus stuff because although I’ve definitely seen a fair few they kinda blur together… Oh also, I’m not big on the VHS series.
My next ‘first watch’ is going to be From A Whisper to a Scream’.

Patient Seven?
Innnnnterestiiiiing
I got it from this list on wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_h ... logy_films

I have no clue which ones are good or bad...

I also features: KillRoy Was Here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KillRoy_Was_Here

Reviews on Rottentomatoes:
"It’s just a DOA effort trying to sell the macabre appearance of a slasher Beetlejuice, and while there’s blood and guts, there’s no polish or imagination found in this unenthusiastic endeavor."

"If I could give this movie negative stars I would. Maybe some day Kevin Smith will realize that not all of the ideas he comes up with after multiple dabs should be made into movies. Who even cares at this point? Not him apparently."

So that one is bad :-)

This one is probably also not worth a watch: Dr. Saville's Horror Show (2022)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10151386/
"Nauseating, when it wasn't boring.
(billstubbles-9145818 August 2023)
I turned this off after 20 minutes.
Someone apparently got the idea to rip off both the Saw franchises and Silence of the Lambs, and then scoured the dollar stores around Halloween to put together the ridiculous costume for Dr. Saville.
What I saw of the first story alternated between boring and nauseating, with a heavy serving of fat-shaming thrown in for good measure.
I saw this for free on Tubi and still feel ripped off - that's 20 minutes of my life I'm never going to get back.
The glowing reviews are either trolls, paid, or drinking buddies for whoever is responsible for this piece of garbage."

Scare Package (2019)
This one does get nice reviews: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/scare_package

There is also a sequel:
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/scare_ ... ds_revenge

This also gets favorable reviews:
The Mortuary Collection (2019)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mortuary_Collection

XX (2019)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XX_(film)
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 69% based on 64 reviews, with an average rating of 6/10. The website's critics consensus reads, "XX's array of distinct female filmmaking voices – and the empowerment their collection represents – offer enough thrills to make up for the overall uneven quality that plagues most anthology projects."[9] On Metacritic, the film has a score of 64 out of 100 based on 15 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[10]

Bloody Disgusting's Ben Larned called the creation of the film "a milestone" and said the "anthology lives up to expectations, and surpasses many male-dominated efforts of its kind" ultimately giving it a 4/5 rating.[11] Sean Smithson writing for Shock Till You Drop said "XX is marking the spot for the future of horror" and noted "I’m ready for a second installment."[12]

David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter stated, "while it's worth applauding the women-to-the-fore directive, the usual limits apply. With each short running around 20 minutes, there's little time to develop character or dramatic nuance, let alone lay the crucial groundwork to seed escalating terror."[13]
A Christmas Horror Story (2015)
starring William Shatner...

XX is good!

My quality threshold rules out most of those, as well as Holidays and Tales of Halloween- both of which I previoulsy attempted to watch and were dreadful

I don't recommend Scare Package or The Mortuary Collection, both I watched based on positive reviews and was completely baffled by how terrible they were

I will say though I do love Tales of Halloween, the stop motion segment is super fun

XX is great

I watched Friday the 13th KILLER CUT this weekend. I actually enjoy this remake more than most, it's a middle of the road Jason film that really screams mid 00's but it's fun, mean and the standard version is pretty well paced. I think the Killer Cut could have just benefitted from the added gore and none of the fluff

Also watched Demons 2 for the first time, no idea why it took me so long. While it's no Demons it's still a blast with a killer score and tons of really fun effects work. Plus the main demon's run is hilarious there's so many slo mo shots of it too. Lots of complete gaps in story & logic. Like at the end of the film the pregnant lady, her husband and the girl in the blue dress are getting ready to repel down the building it cuts to girl in blue dress saying something then a shot of the building from below and then she's just a demon all of a sudden and gets thrown off the building

Ok, it’s Chuck Band and a bunch of other pre-Stuart Gordon Empire bullshit, but I just might have to add this to my anthology watching. Great poster!

The fact that one (of the seven!) segments is by David Allen alone promises at least some cool stop motion action.
