I remember this. If I'm not mistaken that is how Creepshow came about. It was a precursor project to The Stand or it happened because they were having problems getting The Stand off the ground. It was a long time ago but I think it was something along those lines.

That makes perfect sense! Appreciate the insight!

Also read this one. And really liked it. I can imagine people who have a dog like it more than others would.

Diving into this again. I haven't read it since it's initial release back in 2002. I'm about 200 in of the 700 pages. I remember it being good but I've forgotten how good. McCammon is such a good writer.

I read A Boy's Life in the 90's, enjoyed it but never read another novel of his until last month when I tackled Swan Song....the first 250-300 pages were just perfect...& the rest was pretty damn impr6 as well. I have a couple more old pbs lying around, definitely going to continue reading him.

You've read the two that many consider his best. I've read Boy's Life 4 or 5 times. Swan Song I've read twice and I'm getting an itch for a third. For me it was better than The Stand. I've been a fan of his from the beginning (Baal) and think all his stuff is worth reading. I hope you enjoy the next one you pick up by him.

“…better than The Stand…”

Tim, this is crazy talk. You need a checkup from the neck up. Almost nothing is better than The Stand!

In all seriousness though, I read it when I was about 14 and man it left a mark - I distinctly remember finishing it around 3 or 4am and running upstairs to wake my sister so I could talk about the ending :)

I’ve not read McCammon, will put Swan Song on my list 👍🏼

Sacrilege!

LOL!

Scojo, I hope you enjoy it when you get around to reading it. Like the Stand, it's a brick, coming in around 900+ pages depending on the edition you pick up. The Stand was a bit of a slog for me in the middle and I never got that with Swan Song. Also, I was happy to finish The Stand. "Finally, I'm done!" Swan Song I didn't want to end. I was so sad when I turned that last page. That's a bit why it's better for me. YMMV of course. But I do hope you enjoy it.

A couple of side-notes, Suntup Press just release hints of some of their upcoming limited editions and the August release will be Swan Song. Really looking forward to seeing what they do with it. (As if I need another edition.)

Also, just finished Speaks the Nightbird and it's great! Well worth checking out for anyone who hasn't read it.

Happy reading all!

I have Mystery Walk & The Night Boat on my shelves, really looking forward to both of them! I haven't read the Stand in 25 years but I just picked up a copy of it about a month ago. The general concensus, among those in the know (& not SK lifers) is Swan Song is the stronger of the two....sorry ScoJo!

Very, very much looking forward to that Suntup Edition reveal!

Ha! I'm withholding judgement until I reread The Stand now, headed towards 50, when I originally read it as a teen and loved every minute of it....
