Dirty Harry (1971) -> Andrew Robinson -> Shoot to Kill (1988) -> Tom Berenger -> Platoon (1986) -> Willem Dafoe -> Auto Focus (2002) -> Rita Wilson -> Kimi (2022) -> Erika Christensen -> Flightplan (2005) -> Jody Foster -> The Brave One (2007) -> Nicky Katt -> Sin City (2005) -> Rutger Hauer -> Flesh + Blood (1985) -> Jennifer Jason Leigh -> eXistenX (1999) -> Jude Law -> Gattaca (1997) - Alan Arkin -> Wait Until Dark (1967) -> Richard Crenna -> Body Heat (1981) -> Kathleen Turner -> Romancing the Stone (1984) - Michael Douglas -> Black Rain (1989) -> Andy Garcia -> The Mule (2019) -> Clint Eastwood - The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) -> Sondra Locke -> Death Game (1977) -> Colleen Camp -> Game of Death (1978) - Bruce Lee -> Way of the Dragon (1973) -> Chuck Norris -> Lone Wolf McQuade (1983) -> David Carradine -> Young Billy Young (1969) - Angie Dickinson -> The Killers (1964) -> Lee Marvin -> Prime Cut (1972) -> Gene Hackman -> Unforgiven (1992) -> Frances Fisher -> Tough Guys Don't Dance (1987) -> Wings Hauser -> Vice Squad (1982) -> Season Hubley -> Hardcore (1979) -> George C Scott -> Anatomy of a Murder (1959) -> Lee Remick -> Experiment in Terror (1962) -> Glenn Ford -> Gilda (1946) -> Rita Hayworth ->
The Lady from Shanghai (1947) -> Orson Welles -> The Trial (1962)

I only notice now that it is the second movie from 1962 that I watched in the above string of movies... Oh well.
This one I really like for the first third, but then it became a bit tiresome I guess. Still a great movie.

Despite being sick as a dog earlier in the day and it howling with rain, dragged myself out to see Christine for the 1st time on the big screen tonight.
What an absolute fucking treat. Film (and novel) will always have very special place for me.

And sorry, have to say - having sat through endless thunderous, vacuous trailers for this years crop of Halloween offerings- man they look so incredibly lame in comparison. Five Nights at Freddy’s can eat the peanuts out of my shit. Just made me feel like, nobody knows how to make a horror film any more. (which I know isn’t true of course)

I'm baffled they even made Five Nights at Freddy's into a movie. It's barely a game and I don't think it ever deserved the attention it got. The first one barely functions. I haven't seen the trailer but the fact they made it movie makes me feel like it's most likely a soulless cash grab based on name recognition.

There are two films I'm very excited for this month, the first is Joe Lynch's Suitable Flesh starring Barbara Crampton & Heather Graham, based on some Lovecraft story. It's been getting great reviews at festivals the last few weeks and the other is When Evil Lurks from Demián Rugna who directed the fantastic Terrified a few years ago.

So I deleted The Trail from the list :-)
I went with Orson Welles to The Third Man. I have seen this before but probably 20 years ago. Terrific noir.

Top tier pick Bez. And if you chose to, you could use Joseph Cotton to bring you into the 70s/80s again in some really fun ways... Survivor (1980 Oz horror which I like a lot), or go full Italo-sploitation with Concorde Affair '79, Guayana Cult of the Damned or Island of the Fishmen!!

Well I'm glad I didn't spring for the Messiah of Evil bluray. Looking at the screen shots I don't think it looks any better the Code Red bluray, it has better grain structure but it seems like they made it quite a bit brighter and pushed it have more of a pink hue. Considering the director oversaw the restoration from Code Red I am perfectly fine sticking with that version after seeing the screen caps

It was coded for region 2 accidentally, and also apparently the aspect ratio was a bit off.

Loved it but that plot... Very Italian :-)

The Fall of the House of Usher

I really enjoyed this one, it's not as good as Midnight Mass but it's better than both the Haunting series. Great cast, really great effects work and I enjoyed the structure with loose Poe story themes. It won't be for everyone but it worked for me.

Jakob's Wife

A revisit and it holds up to my initial viewing. I love it, both Larry and Barbara deliver fantastic performances.

Play Dead

This one was a bit of a dud. I think it could have been tightened up to 80-90 minute thriller and would have been much more entertaining. At an hour and 45 it just fucking drags, it's concept, writing and acting are not strong enough to carry that run time.

The Barn

I've been meaning to check this out for ages and finally did, it's quite fun. A nice throwback to low brow VHS slashers.

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster

This one was really good, I highly recommend everyone check it out. Really great concept, acting is excellent, writing and directing were very impressive.

When Evil Lurks

From the director of Terrified (the killer ghost story anthology from a few years back). This film floored me, it's easily my second favorite film of the year just behind Talk To Me. It's on Shudder now or rental on Amazon, do yourself a favor and just go watch this. It's brutal, gross, has a really great original concept, acting is excellent and it will make you anxious and/or uncomfortable.

Suitable Flesh

Joe Lynch returns to directing with this Lovecraft adaption about a body swapping sex demon. I'll be honest this won't be for everyone but it worked for me. I'm a big fan of Joe and he tries his best to make a film that fits in with Re-Animator and From Beyond, he definitely doesn't fully achieve that goal but it's a pretty damn good attempt. Heather Graham and Barbara Crampton are very good in their roles, the main kid didn't quite work for me but outside of that it's my only complaint. I loved the look of the film, it feels very small budget with that late 80's / early 90's low budget aesthetic.

April Fools Day

First time watch, really enjoyable slasher with an ending I should have clearly seen coming but for some reason I didn't. Love the score and can't wait to get that full orchestral version on the new pressing sometime next year.

Malum

I didn't understand why they needed to remake Last Shift but here we are with a film that I thought looked absolutely terrible from the trailer. I'm glad I watched it as I think it's quite good film. If you just watched this not knowing it's a remake you would probably be quite impressed. They really pushed the cult thing forward, lots of changes to reality, you don't know if what she's seeing is real or not, if it's all manipulation. I actually really recommend people check this out, it's got some great stuff in it.

Totally Killer

Kind of a slasher film mashed up with Back to the Future. It's fun and light hearted. A good Sunday afternoon watch. Probably not something a ton of people will be talking about in a few years but still entertaining. I would say if you liked Happy Death Day and/or Freaky then you'll enjoy this, it had a similar tone/vibe.

Saw X

If you like the first 3-4 Saw films you'll probably enjoy some of this. If you don't like Saw films then stay away. The best trap was an imagined one and is featured on the poster. They really dragged out the beginning with Jigsaw having cancer and trying to make you feel for him, make him more human. It was pointless, no one cares about that shit. Just give us traps and move along. We already know he died 5 or 6 movies ago.

This is a long shot, but - does anyone have the Twilight Time bluray of Zardoz, and the ability to rip or capture/record the isolated track of David Munrow’s score? (For personal reasons…. hoot hoot….. :)

The Creator dir by Gareth Edwards

A very solid sci-fi film that unfortunately seemed to get far too much hype leading up to it's release. So many wild claims like one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time and other hyperbolic shit that it just couldn't live up to. I think visually it's a striking film with a lot of really amazing world building, character/robot designs and amazing landscapes. The story itself is very generic and feels far to familiar for 90% of it's beats. I enjoyed this one and highly recommend it, it's a very enjoyable film and worth everyone's time.

Thanks @bez for this one

What About Bob?

My wife had never seen this one and I decided now was as good of time as every to watch it. Bill Murray is so good here. It's been one of my favorite roles of his since I was a kid, it was often a rental at my house.

The Great Outdoors

Another staple of my childhood, I haven't seen this since then. It's still an entertaining time, I don't think it stands up as well as a lot of the other films of that era (Planes, Trains & Automobiles or Uncle Buck) but it's still a fun time. As a kid I loved the racoon bits, they still work as an adult .

Twin Dragons

This finally received an HD release of the Hong Kong cut with Cantonese audio from 88 Films. It's often overlooked bc the US cut was so poorly done. I think the HK cut is really strong and is a very solid entry in Jackie's filmography. Now we only need Rumble in the Bronx, First Strike and Who Am I? in their original HK cuts and I'll be a happy Jackie fan.

Going through all movies up to Nemesis. I wasn't a fan of JJ Abrams films. I do wish someone could step up and give us the new Star Trek movie we deserve. Bring back The Borg!
