watching the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

it made me so happy. they did this really meta extended end credit sequence where Larry and Jeff go to the symphony. It's a concert conducted by Luciano Michelini. The orchestra plays a live version of Il Barone Rosso, and Larry & Jeff sit and watch while credits flash on top of the image.

I'm very excited to dive into this. I'm a huge Curb fan.

i love this movie. Directors cut it excellent and highly recommended. some of the CG hasn't aged great but some of it still looks very cool

I think I had seen The Frighteners before but after tonight I am not sure.
Those 1996 CGI effects in this movie are way beyond a everything at the time. Still looks really good.

Peter Jackson... The first movie from him I watched was Braindead. Bad Taste not long after my second watch of Braindead. I absolutely loved those movies when I was 15 or 16 years old. Heavenly Creatures as well. I think I have seen Meet The Feebles 20 years ago but not sure.
Fast forward ten year and loved Lord of the Rings.
For some reason I never watched the any of the Hobits... I read now he co-wrote Mortal Engines. I only remember that movie from a trailer at the start of another movie in the cinema.

That makes me want to watch Michael Bay flicks again! But looking at his list I remember only The Rock and Armageddon. I never even heard about 6 Underground but this review has me intrigued: "6 Underground is loud, frenetic and finally preposterous – which is either bad news or a hearty recommendation, depending how one feels about the movies of Michael Bay."

I am taking a small return to 2021 before continuing with 1996 (which has Hellraiser IV in store for me (I wanted to use the idiom 'In stall for me' but looking up that phrase it appears that 'in store' is the way to go))

I actually had not realized on which and how many movies you had worked on. I have a lot of them coming up :-)

I was born in Belgium in 1980 and if I remember correctly I really got into movies when I was 14 or 15 years old. I taped a lot of stuff from TV and rented VHS tapes from video stores. I am surprised now to realize I have not seen a lot of nineties horror although I thought I did. Wishmaster is one I actively remember having rented back then.
My main focus probably was older stuff. Back then I already loved film noir movies (Maltese Falcon I remember the most) and stuff like The Spiral Staircase. Also eighties Cronenberg was a joy and when Funny Games came out in 1997 I wanted to watch everything Michael Haneke had done.
However around 2000-2001 I think TV shows began to become more and more interesting. At that time I was at university in the Netherlands and internet was a thing. I had affordable and fast internet fairly soon and the opened my door to American TV shows that didn't make it to my country or a year or so later. There was Lost of course but I was watching everything... that means 3 different CSI shows and almost every new show even if it got cancelled half way through. I loved Nip/Tuck :-)
But also Heroes and Eureka... Weeds... Carnivale!!!
This is bringing back a lot of memories.
Anyways. because of TV I did not watch a lot of movies in the 00s. I did buy my fair share of DVDs though. A lot of them were Japanese or Korean movies. Everything from Takhesi Miike for instance. I still have all of those somewhere in a box.

The last ten years I have been trying to focus more on movies again but with the advent of Netflix that was not really easy. Because of the access one has nowadays choosing what to watch has become more and more difficult. Creating these assignments for myself has made it more fun and also forced me to see things I otherwise probably would never even know about. I was especially surprised with the fun I had with Spaghetti Westerns. And of course JCVD :-)

The horror nineties are also more fun that I had thought. But I have to say I am skipping most of the numbers 3, 4 or 5 from franchises. But I will watch Hellraiser: Bloodline this week!

Robotrix dir by Jamie Luk

RoboRaper is a film where there's a lot of C-grade fight scenes sprinkled in between sex scenes, two of those sex scenes are quite graphic rape scenes. This one most definitely deserves the Cat III rating. One rape scene was enough, I can't believe they thought a second one was needed, the weirdest part is the first one could have totally just been a sex scene turned into revenge kill but it had to get real nasty instead. Overall it was an entertaining film that I kind of enjoyed but man those two scenes really brought it down for me and I can't even recommend it. I did learn something new though, it stars Amy Yip (the large breasted woman on the right in the poster) who fans of the genre dub her rolls as Yip Teases because she never once shows her breasts even though she is naked in every film she stars in. I found that funny because I thought she looked like the woman in Erotic Ghost Story who never showed her breasts as well (after looking it up it was her).




Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings dir by Destin Daniel Cretton

Well I was quite surprised by how good this one was. I thought the trailer looked bad and I immediately wrote it off. My buddy went to the theaters and was ranting up and down about it, I tend to take his super hero ravings with a grain of salt but he was right. This is easily one of the best Marvel films and it's kind of because it barely feels like a Marvel film. It's a big budget martial arts flick with incredible special effects. Any fans of martial arts films really should watch it, don't skip it like I was going to. Bonus points to them for hiring some classic HK actors like Michelle Yeoh and Yuen Wah. I know Michelle Yeoh has become a more household actress over the years but she's got her roots in HK action cinema.

I believe it has been 15 years since I have seen From Dusk Till Dawn. Never in HD or with surround sound. It still is fantastic. The dialogue and music are so good.

I am doing two more for 1996. And I am getting ready for 1997. I assume Spawn is not really horror but I don't think I have ever seen it. Not sure if I will watch it because there a lot of others I will for sure: The Relic, Mimic, Scream 2, Wishmaster, I know what you did last Summer, ...

There is a directors cut of Mimic out there as well. I really enjoy Mimic. I haven't seen Relic since it came out. I distinctly remember the film being very dark but a cool monster.

And I'm with ScoJo IKWYDLS was shitty when it came out and hasn't aged well. If you didn't enjoy The Craft then I can't imagine you'll like that one.

I believe I have seen most of the horror movies from 1996 and upwards around the time they were released. So it has been a while.
The reason I was thinking about IKWYDLS is because I feel a bit nostalgic. I really liked Urban Legend when I rewatched it a couple of months ago. I was hoping to find more of those teen slasher type movies from that era.

Hey @bez I would say if you found some enjoyment in Urban Legend you just might enjoy IKWYDLS especially if your feeling a little nostalgic. Did you watch The Dentist for you 96 watch? It’s not the best movie in the world but it does have that Brian Yuzna feel to it.

A movie that also fits that Scream, Urban Legend, IKWYDLS model of 90s teen slasher and at the time I thought was terrible but looking back 20+ years and the addition of other shitty sequels is H2O. I think H2O kinda aged well considering.

I had The Dentist on my long list :-) But now you mention it I will give a try today.
H2O I wanted to watch for sure. I think I have only seen that once.
Kevin Williamson also wrote the screenplay for The Faculty and than one is also on my list.

It appears as I get closer to 2000s I have already seen most movies at least once and for 1997 and 1998 there are a lot of movies that have some interest. But I don't want to spend more than 1 week on a year and I don't have the same amount of time each week. Oh well, I am not to strict about this all in the end.
I am going to watch the Japanese 1997 movie Cure as well. It is a thriller and not horror and I think I did watch it back then. But Cube I am skipping because I have seen that many times. Same as with The Devil's Advocate. That feels more like a thriller but also a movie I watched several times. I actually might try Night of the Demons 3... Although I probably shouldn't.
