I love the score to the Burning and like scojo stated the murder scenes are great but when it comes to the story I much prefer Madman. I believe both movies were in production at the same time and were both based on the lore of Croppy. image.jpg

I love slashers i own Seven of those movies, watched eight of them but I’ll be honest can’t say I’ve heard of Without Warning. I think I have some sleuthing to do. The one on that list that to me I want to watch but for some reason still have not is Just Before Dawn.

Without Warning is a super cheapo backwoods survival slasher/alien hunters flick - sortof a precursor to Predator! The neat score is by Dan (Carpenter/The Fog) Wyman - I played tracks from it on a recent ep of the TonyScott pod :)

The Prey is unreleased.

An obscure one which did get an OG album release is Final Exam, but not very exciting imo… both film and score are pretty dull. Unlike JBDawn which is terrific, and you know that one has a nice Brad Fiedel ost?

Strong run of slasher scores going on here right now!
I would throw in Don‘t go in the house into the mix - really nice WW release. However, don’t exactly feel like spinning that one on this evening, as similar to Maniac it succeeds in taking you to some dark places…
And @ScoJo: Agree that Final Exam for sure isn‘t a top tier slasher (yeah, it‘s dull), the score is solid though, me thinks. Maybe worth giving it another chance?

And damn, Just Before Dawn is fantastic (perfect example of how the music can elevate the movie to another level), haven‘t given up the hope that someone finds the tapes someday even if it seems unlikely.

Final Exam has been on my radar for a while now but yeah the movie is a little underwhelming but it’s an OG slasher soundtrack I’ll probably pick it up at some point.

I’ve been looking for more Fiedel lately I’m shocked I didn’t know this. Damn.

The score is great, more Bernstein synth greatness. As for the actual movie it’s worth checking out for sure. I will say that there are better Slasher movies out there but it has its moments. I’ll be reaching for the soundtrack more than putting on the movie that’s for sure.
