J Dilla - Jay Loves Japan

Some how I had never heard this one. I saw it go up for sale at Fatbeats, bought it immediately and glad I did, sold out fast. It's a great although short project from Dilla.

Osamu Shoji - Night Flight
In SPACE-SIZER 360!!!!

I finally found a copy of this for a good price. So fucking happy about it. I love this one. Most of Shoji's work is rearrangements or scores, this is one of the few that is just a collection of original compositions.

Nice inks! I need to prioritize night flight on my shoji want list.

I didn't.realise it's a "space sizer" release, is this the same thing as that Japanese phantasm?

Honestly I have no idea, I ran the section through google translate app and it roughly translated to a special 360 degree sound field if you are sitting at the proper angles in front of the speakers. It's licensed and created by some one else. I've never heard of it before but it sounds really cool.

I definitely think you should move this one up the list priority wise, it's really damn good. And luckily it's not as expensive as Jataka these days. Most Japanese sellers are sitting around $20-$30 for a copy so if you can roll it into a bigger purchase it ends up being pretty reasonable.

Daniel Son & Futurewave - Pressure Cooker

West Side Gunn - Hitler Wears Hermes IV-VII

These are all bootlegs. The original pressings were very limited and since the release of his album Pray For Paris last year all of his OOP albums have skyrocketed to $200-$300 a piece. These went up for sale for $30 a pop and I grabbed them all. Sound quality wise they are pretty good but lacking the low end. Assuming they just took CD rips and sent them off with out doing any work. I can't really complain though, it's nice to have them on vinyl and pay less than the price of one for all 4. IV is my favorite and VII is a close second.

Late reply,

@inksb It's not Phantasm I was thinking of but the Japanese Halloween press is also a space-sizer 360 record.

https://www.discogs.com/John-Carpenter- ... 7165?ev=rr

I think Osamu Shoji also has some credit on this record maybe it was his thing.

EDIT**

Ok, looking at the extensive comments section on discogs and trying to recall Scott and Tony's discussion this link to osamu shoji may clear things up,or make them more confusing 😅

Funny thing about the Space-Sizer 360 thing is that it has nothing to do with Shoji on the Night Flight album, it specifically states that it's invented and supplied by Nonyamu Fukuda (I'm zooming in on a photo on my phone right now so this name may be spelled wrong as it's a touch blurry). So who knows. I've never heard the Japanese pressing, does it sound that different from the VS?

Feel like I should be inserting a reference to Spinal Tap's black album.
