Another find from today, best score I've had in a while. Killer record all Beatles covers with a funky vibe, a very "cadet sounding" record with the string arrangements thanks to Charles Stepney. and the drums are killer several hard open breaks and tight rhythm overall. Plus just a touch of weirdness. The whole thing is great. I wanted to dig one for ages, I have flipped past so many ramsey lewis records but never this one. And there it was today, like new in the shrink wrap no cuts or punch outs. I walked out with the Mann, this one and a Gerry Mulligan for $4 in total. Score.

Also that tjader record is.cool. think I sold it years ago, but I remember that groovy soul food cover!! No idea about lee Morgan guess I need to do some reading.

Ok so I read about lee Morgan. Guess he fucked around and found out, shot by the missus over a love triangle! Sounds like there's a Netflix doc I should watch.

This one I like a lot with wayne shorter, Harold mabern, bob cranshaw and billy Higgins.

I didn't know about a Netflix doc on Morgan, will check that out.
I recently watched the Blue Note documentary - highly recommended if you haven't seen it, great to see some of these giants interviewed and still in action (Hancock, Shorter).

Also watched the Miles Davis doc (birth of the cool) on Netflix which was solid. Not so much new info as I have read quite a lot about him but nice live material and interesting interviews.

That Lewis track is a great mood, nice one @tex. The Stepney arrangement is wonderful as you'd expect, very Alice Coltrane at the start - I could live my whole life without ever hearing another rock-or-jazz Beatles cover, but this was a nice vibe. That Lewis was a real stabber of the keys, a highly emphatic style that works in an odd way against the lush strings and loping rhythm... as you say, pleasantly a bit weird!

maybe it's my mood but this one is really singing for me today. So much so I just bought a tone poet copy to compare. This liberty press sounds really good so it will be an interesting comparison.

Some decent stuff here. A couple that aren't my favorite but still solid.

First time I've been quick enough to get something from slowlo ABQ in his recent jazz sales. This one is pretty damn good with sahib shihab, bobby jaspar Kenny Clarke and others. Was lucky to get it and the price was right especially for the nice condition.

Excellent@Texas! I think Inner Urge is my favourite Henderson as a leader, the 2x45 MMJ is high on my wantlist. I also have Cape Verdean, such a good album, almost on par with Song to my Father.

Page One I also really like nowadays. I remember someone gave me that album on CD as a gift to my 13th or 14th birthday, couldn’t do anything with it at the time. :)

That's funny at 13 I was asking for silverchair and tool CDs. I wouldn't have had a clue about joe henderson!

The craft eastern sounds came in. I don't think this is on the level of the music matters stuff. It sounds good, but there's a sort of harshness to the treble. Almost a high frequency pitch ring or something. I'm not a huge fan. The cover is a non laminated tip on single sleeve housed in a weird bulky black outer thing with almost nothing on it. And a liner note on a folder insert. They really should ditch the bulky thing, go with a gatefold, laminate it and put the liner notes and pics inside the gatefold. But I don't think this is worth all the hype. I don't have an original and might try to grab one now to compare.

Very solid Tina Brooks gig! Don‘t yet have the Tone Poet Release but will get that eventually.

And thanks for the intel on Eastern Sounds, hard to get over here at a somewhat decent price point, so no regrets that I gave it a pass.

I cleaned eastern sounds and tried a different needle. It might be my setup. I'm warming up to it. That first listen was on headphones too. I find I don't love a lot of these AAA releases with headphones on, but they sound good in a room.

This one has had a bunch of spins in the past couple days. Bluesy, soulful and really damn good. Favorite of the tone poets so far

Turrentine is really good, I enjoy the blues vibes, makes for some great late night jazz.

So this one has been on constant rotation over here lately.
