:)
When I was around 18-19, I was working as a community librarian in an area about ten miles from home, a predominantly Asian/Indian community. I was already nuts about films of course, and even used to put on 16mm film shows at the library on saturdays for local children.
I worked with a young guy about my age, an Indian kid, and he was always asking me about films as he had no clue but could tell it was my big passion. One day he asked me to rec'd something really good (as I absent mindedly chatted whilst cataloguing micro fiche!) and without much thought I suggested he check out Blue Velvet - I was super into Lynch, and BV was relatively new to video.
Anyway, the next day when I roll up he's off work for some reason- and the head librarian called me into her office. She was fucking steamed, really really pissed - acting like I had taken a shit in the middle of the library, super angry!
'Why!? How could you!? What's wrong with you...what were you thinking??' etc etc.
She eventually tells me that he went out and rented BV, then took it home and watched it.... with his entire Muslim family. Mother, father, grandparents, cousins, little brothers and sisters.... everyone.
Yeah. Holy fuck. My mind reeled as I imagined them all sat round experiencing 'Frank'!!
In my defense, I genuinely remember just wanting to suggest a good film, and it was the first really great one that popped into my head.
Work was... difficult for a while. They eventually fired me for some other slack shit I think.
BABY LOVES TO FUUUUCK, FUCK YOU YOU FUCKLESS FUCKER, SHOW TITS HER KID, HEINEKEN FUCK THAT SHIT, I'LL SEND YOU A LOVE LETTER FUCKER, A BULLET FROM A FUCKING GUN!!!!!
