Well that was stellar. If you don’t have Idiot Prayer buy it now. I’m actually sad I didn’t grab it earlier.

I've been slacking on picking up the recent Cave output. I really should remedy that. I actually still haven't heard this one.

I rarely purchase V/A or compilation soundtracks, but a friend introduced me to the films of Wong Kar Wai many years ago and this one left an impression. The scores are quite eclectic and this is no exception. I could listen to the Umebayashi theme on a loop, but the album has a nice flow. The pieces by Michael Galasso are excellent.

So glad I pulled the trigger on this, I worried that perhaps Mr Trunk (and a friend who was being very enthusiastic) were being over the top in their praise. Turns out they were right on the money, amazing score.

Yeah it's pretty great. Any know if there is a shop in the US that carry's Trunk's releases?

edit: looks like Dusty Groove does. Cool.

@bez it doesn’t matter how many copies I have of DotD I still want that version for the cover alone. Congrats.

Found this yesterday still in the plastic. So I figured I would let it breathe a little :)

@Bez - nice pick-ups, you have been swooping up some real beauties lately, especially that Down of the Dead LP. So, interesting to hear that GSF/Poo was a bootleg label from the late 70's. How is the pressing quality on those?

Story time for those that care. I may have mentioned this in the past but here it is anyways. My youngest sister is 15 years younger than me. I used to watch her a lot for my mom and the summer post college that I moved home before finding my own place, I was watching Howl's Moving Castle, my sister came into my room to tell me something (she would have been around 6 or 7) she saw what was on the TV and just stared at it in awe. She slowly walked over to my couch and sat down, not saying a single word until the film finished a little over an hour later. About a year later I was living in a small apartment in a city about an hour away from my mom's and she needed some one to watch my sister so as a last resort I had to do it, early 20 something watching his 7 year old sister, not much at my tiny apartment other than a futon, TV, DVD's, records and videogames. So I thought maybe I'll show her some more Miyazaki, I put on Totoro and she just sat in front of the TV in awe of it, she loved it even more than Howl's (makes sense since the themes and imagery of Totoro are more playful). We finished the movie and it was time for her to go to bed but she begged me to let her watch it again, I did thinking she would fall asleep watching it, nope she watched the entire thing again and then went to bed. Since that day we've had a connection over Miyazaki films, every time she would come over I'd show her another. I ended up buying her all the DVD's eventually and to this day she still loves them. She even has a Totoro phone case. Having something like that to bond with a younger sibling is really nice and is a connection all these years later. It was awesome to see my little sister be simply struck by the beauty of Miyazaki films exactly the same way I was when I saw Kiki's, Nausicaa & Totoro when I was younger. Anyway long story short, hearing this music just gives me those feels as it brings back some nice memories I have related to the film.

This sounds pretty damn good. Happy to finally have it. It's one of the few Argento's I've never seen but I've loved the tracks I've sampled at times from the soundtrack. Very cool to finally give it a full listen.

@inks - Great story, I appreciate reading things like this. I have tried to get my own kid to appreciate more of the Miyazaki filmography. Her favorites are Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. I did get her to watch Totoro and she enjoyed it, but it never really spoke to her like those other two films did. I think she has seen about half of them now, and I keep trying to get her to watch the rest of them when given the opportunity.

The pressing is good! Thank God. As this is one of my favorite OSTs of all time, the previous Mondo pressing (Xibalba Splatter) was almost unlistenable at points. I'm really glad to have gotten this one.

I loved that story about your sister. Totoro is also my favorite. And I loved Kiki's Delivery Service as well. I should revisit them all actually. I believe a lot of them are available on Netflix in Europe at the moment.
