I have no memory of the score at all, it's been well over a decade since I last watched the film. I almost pulled the trigger a few times buying this from WRWTFWW
I have not rewatched since picking up the vinyl. Like Akira's OST It definitely stands out from most other anime OSTS. It's a lovely pressing and can be got cheaper than its original price on discogs, particularly with the obi misprint and if you want the deluxe version with bonus 7".
The whole LP is up on YouTube. Very different from anything else I've heard from kawai but absolutely brilliant imo.

I will try and correct that situation....and if someone tries to stop me I will correct them.
While I think the movie is fun and incredibly cheesy, I'm fully aware of how bad it is. The score on the other hand is excellent.

I've heard Chris singing this tune before- and manfully resisted so far (since I loathe those crappy films) but admit he's definitely wearing down my resistance on this score ;-)

Interesting.... not to dispute brother Static's love of this in any way, but had a listen myself and it's a hard pass from me. Sounds like Rugrats! (I know, I know...that's Mothersbaugh and has plenty of 'feels' for lots of 90s kids ;) But that's just the problem for me with this (and some other Terrorvision/Lunaris releases), in that I have zero affection for the movies, and tbh without that factor a lot of this digital-80s 'Synclavier-style' horror music just sounds fugly to my ears! (ugh, those digi pan pipes!)

We love what we love, and for a multitude of reasons. TROST isn't hitting any targets for me unfortunately ;) But I am as ever immensely grateful for somebody here sharing their enjoyment of something and encouraging others to check it out.

(I had the very same thing recently with Splatter University - not a film I saw back in the day, and catching up with it recently to investigate the music, I found both the film and score to be hot garbage ha!)

My little daughter (soon 1 year old) really likes this. Don‘t know if that is a sign of quality or not but in any case it‘s a fact.

Now Scott could we potentially have another Turkey Shoot situation here. If my memory is correct, you first thought that score was a leaking, sulfuric mess. As time went on, you eventually "WOKE" to it's vibe.

@tim - Very nice Lalo Schifrin collection (from a page back).

ImageYu Imai & Hozan Yamamoto - 悪魔が来りて笛を吹く (The Devil Comes and Plays The Flute) [Columbia Japan YX-5006-AX - 1978]

Been chasing this one for a while. Breezy jazzfunk with some lovely woodwinds tucked among plodding disco jams. It's the OST for a film about detective Kosuke Kindaichi. There is a thick full-gloss sleeve for this one, and I'm stoked to find one in such nice condition.
