A budget arthouse flick which has a full on psych jam soundtrack running through it (not watched the whole thing yet) Which sounds very similar to some Tele-music jams (pederson? guiot?). Coincidentally similar to a library LP I posted stating how it couldnt possibly be made for soundtrack use :D.

If anyone can point me to a subbed version that would be cool.

I'm pretty sure HAXAN is finally coming out on bluray from Criterion later this year. I've always want to watch it but it constantly got bumped down the Criterion wishlist during the sales.

Yes indeed it is, have had their dvd release for years, and it’s a must watch around Halloween. Looking forward to what they’ve done with the new remaster. This phrase gets tossed around a lot, but it really is ahead of its time

As I continue my trek through HK 80's & early 90's action cinema, I arrive at Bullet in the Head by John Woo. I thought I had seen this one but after about 15 minutes realized I was wrong. This is a strange one, it starts off so weird and overtly cheesy, I wasn't really sure what to think about it. But at about the half way point in the film, it starts to take a turn for the dark and the final act is just rough. It's about three childhood friends who grow up in a life of crime but try to make the best out of it, money becomes an issue for them and starts to drive a wedge into their relationship. I'll leave it there but I didn't expect the film to go down the path it did. The action is big and outrageous at times but out of the Woo films I've seen it's my least favorite HK film from him.

I’m watching a 1965 TV film starring Leslie Nielsen called “Dark Intruder”. It was the pilot for a show called “the black cloak” that never got picked up, but oh boy is this thing great in all it’s 60s occult tv glory. Nielsen plays a playboy occult detective in 1890 San Fransisco and has some super early lovecraftian references before that really bled too much into pop culture. More importantly, it has a truly awesome period score by Lalo Schifrin that I will now be on a serious hunt for.

Will be doing a double feature with another failed occult detective pilot, Gene Roddenberry’s Spectre, which I’ve also never seen.

I found it to be strange, slow and starring Franco Nero and it is Italian and has crime in it.
And apparently the first Italian movie to feature the steadycam.

Ringing in the change of season right now with some autumn films... have a few favourites lined up. No work today so starting off with

Such a peculiar, beguiling movie suffused with wintry Canadian melancholy (with Gaubert's score doing some heavy lifting) and filled with one surprise after another - really keeps you guessing! Foster is cute and precocious, and there's a genuinely subversive 'why do kids need adults?' theme throughout. The underlying tension about the Martin Sheen character (representing the corruptness and perversity of the power adults have over young people) is genuinely creepy and unsettling. I would love to stage it as a play, would be easy to transpose all the action so that it takes place only in the house.

I thoroughly enjoyed Blood Drive. There's so much going on. The second half is almost a completely different show from the first half.
I almost can't believe a show like that even got made and put on air, but I'm happy it did.
