Works of Toru Takemitsu (AX-8140)

Film works to be more precise. Some beautiful stuff on this.

Was very surprised to find the theme for the film 'Hymn for a tired man' predates by one year John Barry's Midnight cowboy theme, and Morricone's l'assoluto naturale, as both themes really come to mind when listening to it.
Still J.B. Morricone, Toru, it's all good!

This sounds so much better than I expected, the low end is ridiculous. I'm listening to it at a moderate volume and I can actually feel the bass.

The couple examples I have from the early 2000's (e.g. 2001) are just terrible. The more recent pressings have all sounded good to me.

In my experience there are more problems with modern vinyl pressings. For example: I had to open four Sacred Bones Halloween LPs before I got copy with no defects.

Having been quite lucky on the whole (even with some of them ridanculous splatty colour rekkids that they love making these days) I have had a weakening (and fucking expensive) run of unlistenable gahbage recently.

I turn to my OG Vareses, Milans and others when I need to renew my vinyl faith. It's like some of these new ultra-shiny LPs are very vocal, pious born-again evangelists, shouting loudly from our platters about 'the one and only true path!' and yet their ethics are skin deep, hypocritical and easily tested/found wanting. Whereas those ancient albums of yore are like stoical monks, quietly humming the Unnasailable Truth.

Or something.

Love that New Barbarians score. All of the post-apocalyptic DWRCs are amongst my faves of theirs.
