This was amazing. I was enthralled from the opening of the film until the finale. Top notch action all the way through. Easily the goriest film I've seen this year. An excellent cast, a story about bad people trying to redeem themselves. No one is really a good guy, just a bad guy who feels like he should finally do the right thing. There are moments of action that feel like a Jackie Chan fight, except instead of comedy they go for the most violent outcome possible. An example, there is a pool table, Jackie would use the pool cues and balls, make a few visual gags and move on to something else, here they use pool cues and balls, except some one gets stabbed with pool cues and others get their face caved in from repeated smashing of the ball. So many WTF moments and cringing from arms and legs being broken in crazy ways. If you like Asian action cinema, watch this.

HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION

purely so I can fucking rank the thing on my 'horror franchises uber-ranking mashup list'.

I may go see Halloween '18 again tonight to wash the taste/get myself correct again!
Good luck dude, not even my nostalgic taste for that era of horror can overcome that movie. I’d be shocked if it didn’t wind up at the very end of the list honestly. The only other contender I can think of for last place would be Jason goes to hell.

Based on the above statement, I've narrowed down Max's profession to one of the following careers:
1. Full-time test audience member.
2. Key Grip on Overlord.
3. Lobbyist for Big Zombie.
4. Zombie.

Hahaha. I am thinking 4. How else would he have the patience to fiddle with those tiny walkman bits...

So, Jamie loves modern ghost stories, and we have been grinding through The Haunting of Hill House over the last many nights. It's decent with some creepy moments, but heavy on the loud noises/jump scares.

No sign of a Halloween 2018 screening for me in the near future until we get through this...

Possibly as a reaction to the extraordinarily high praise that this adaptation has been getting.... it left me very cold unfortunately. I'm not a massive fan of Flanagan's work if I'm honest, and this was pretty chock full of all those things I'm not keen on. I do feel like I should maybe give it another day in court sometime when I'm feeling especially open/generous.

My mum loved it.

I liked it well enough until the last few moments, I think he’s a serviceable but not particularly interesting director for the most part.

Yeah man, I like pretty much everything, and I’m a huge fan of the source material.

This could have been a haunted house masterpiece but it kept refusing to be so, there were some wonderful moments and some really great stuff, but a thoroughly incongruous last few minutes made me yearn for a more faithful adaptation even more.

Fortunately we’ll always have the original

I just started watching it myself, two episodes in. It's grabbed me enough to watch til the end but so far nothing extraordinary or worthy of the praise I've seen (again I'm only 2 episodes in). My brother didn't like it but his horror taste is all over the place and he's not well versed in the genre like a lot of us here. I personally like Flanegan, I enjoyed Occulus, really liked Hush and Ouija Origin of Evil and thought Geralds Game was decent. He's not the most talented director out there but he's pretty consistent in what he does and hasn't turned out anything that's complete garbage.

And I hope some of you check out The Night Comes For Us if you're into Asian action cinema, it's in the realm of The Raid 1/2.

I have a long held suspicion with some tenuous evidence that Hollywood, the military and the financial markets are intertwined, and this is why films like Hunter Killer are made. It’s inexplicable, there is no audience for these films. And yet, I found myself ridiculing the US navy, Hollywood and the financial markets who funded this shit, for several hours today, for an hour afterwards also.

I just didn’t want to wait another 45 for something else. Shopping malls and my dad can be fairly tedious after a fairly short period of time

Edit - I did come up with Cum for Red Cocktober during this film. It’s not even a porno

Yuuup.

I've heard it described as 'This is Us, spooky edition'!

I think the very thing which put me off the whole endeavour is what others have really responded to, which is fair enough. But I already know how sappy Flanagan can be having sat through his 'spooky butterfly' film.
