I was watching RoboCop on Amazon prime tonight. Their version is apparently the x-rated ultraviolent one. I have not seen this version before. It gives the movie a weird Turbo Kid kind of vibe where the violence is so utterly absurd that it's pretty funny.

(As an aside...I used to work in an art house video store, and took it upon myself to deface the back of the Swimmer DVD sleeve which GAVE THE SHOCK ENDING AWAY!)

I can't help but think John Cheever's original story was influenced by Fitzgerald's Gatsby being both main characters are so positively delusional in hope, that they are blind to the destructive reality around them. Love the score...have the lp and 7' and also this Wonderful version of the main theme by Jimmy Wisner.

@Evan - I might need to find that single! As an aside...
One of my first assignments at film school was to edit a music video using existing footage and a song of my choice. I used clips from The Swimmer and Kiss Me Deadly (amongst others) to illustrate 'Some Velvet Morning' (Lee & Nancy). The weirdest thing is that just today I finished editing a new music promo commission and with it I have consciously gone back to/referenced that earlier class project of mine.
The score for The Swimmer is so magical, Hamlisch's joyful/bittersweet optimism and lightness of touch is sure missed- I hear almost nothing like it in the world of current film scoring.

It's been years since I've seen this, I actually anjoyed it much more than the last time. It's not perfect but at least Freddy is still scary here rather than his joke cracking self 3-6 brought us. Even though 3 is my go to watch, Freddy is not scary at all in it.

I wasn't crazy about NoES2 at the time of release, but I've really come to love it. With all it's flaws and bizarro choices (the 'Crazed Budgie' that leads nowhere scene jumps to mind!) it has some fantastic things. Just for the one shot of Freddie silhouetted by flames, arms outstretched, growling 'You are all my children now...' So good.

For me 3 has a lot of stuff going for. It is extremely entertaining and just plain fun to watch (for me). It brought back Nancy who I loved in the first one, has Patricia Arquette, Larry Fishburn and John Saxon. Some of the most creative kills in the series(TV, Heroin and puppet), really great practical effects, an entertaining and diverse cast. And of course the incredible Dokken performing the title track!

I've never seen this one and really enjoyed it. I'm very familiar with Nicolai's score. It's a good little giallo. Not the best in the genre but one I'll revisit again in the future.

I highly recommend watching Duccio Tessari's three gialli if you haven't yet. All very different and brilliant in their own right.

That's a great double feature. I loved The Halloween Tree, I introduced the wife to it last year, she had never seen it before.

I highly recommend watching Duccio Tessari's three gialli if you haven't yet. All very different and brilliant in their own right.

Yeah I haven't watched La Polizia Chiede Aiuto before but I really liked What Have They Done to Solange? So I expect to enjoy it quite a bit, I also picked up Enigma Rosso (Red Rings of Fear) as that is usually grouped with the other two due to Fabio Testi.

As for Duccio Tessari, I have Bloodstained Butterfly but haven't watched it yet and it seems from a quick search he directed Puzzle and Death Occured Last Night, are those the two you are talking about? How are his Ringo westerns? I've been tempted to grab the Arrow Video set of the two films.


I decided to go for Fulci's Peversion Story (One On Top of the Other). I see this categorized as a Giallo but I would not call it that. It's more of a mystery/thriller, no black gloved killer. I love the fact that the man who directed Zombie Flesh Eaters directed this, he was so damn versatile. One of my favorite directors. About 5 minutes into the film I was on discogs looking for the score by Riz Ortolani. It's fantastic, I found a few for reasonable prices.

I couldn't sleep last night so I did a double feature of maligned sequels.


I still enjoy this one, it's not great but has some insane special effects, Linnea Quigley's breasts, an OK cast and some creative kills. I particularly like the bench press effects. Steve Johnson was a beast back in the day for special effects.


Friday the 13th Part VIII - Jason Takes A Boat to Manhattan. Still my least favorite Jason film. The pic below really irritates me, I hate the wink wink moment so much.

Yes, What Have They Done to Solange? Is rather excellent. Also have not yet seen Enigma Rosso. I have it somewhere though. The last years I have watched about 100 gialli. I have an excel file here if your are interested to see what titles are out there. Not all of them are available though. If you ever want a digital copy of something let me know. All those ones from Duccio Tessari are brilliant. In my opinion. Death Occurred Last Night I enjoyed the most. Crazy setup.

Still have not seen the Ringo double bill. Was waiting to get the Arrow BR together with the Sartana box. But have been postponing that purchase. They are regarded pretty high what spaghetti westerns are concerned.
