Miami Vice is fabulously absurd. The last watchable Mann film?

Still under it with my back today and trying not to stress about the mountain of work I should be doing.

Instead, going deep on Cary Fukanaga's new Netflix twisty/black humoured dystopian sci fi show MANIAC.

So far (5 eps in) it's extremely dry and weird...and not necessarily in a great way. I have no idea where it's leading tbh but staying with it. A very thin Jonah Hill and a 'darker than usual' Emma Stone are the leads, directed to act as though they are in a dream. Shades of Kaufman/Gondry about the whole quirky affair. (Fukanaga announced as doing Daniel Craig's last Bond, btw!

I'll stay the course and hope it all pulls together. Plus Justin Theroux is always crazy watchable in anything.

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about Fukanaga doing Bond, he's a good director for sure, but is this the right fit? I need Bond to lighten up a tad again, and he doesn't seem to be the one to do that haha. I'm optimistic, but cautiously so.

Of those, I've only seen Mulholland Drive and he's...fine. He just puts me off my feed and I've never found him to be objectively good in anything really. Though admittedly it's a small sample size. I'll watch Maniac if for no other reason than True Detective season one might be the best eight episodes of television ever shot. And I'll keep an open mind to boot. Or try to anyway.

Right then. It's that occasional time again when I put my movie fate in youz guys hands... I need something to watch, first recommendation wins it if there's anyone out there? (otherwise I'll be rewatching Mandy but I kinda feel I should really save it for possible future big screen outing)

This was what Mrs Sanboval and I took in at the cinema this afternoon.

I have never been a huge fan of the Puppet Master series, I watched the first 2-3 when they came out and that's about it. I think 3 may have been the one I liked the most (I think it actually had a budget and a studio behind it) but they didn't do much for me. When I saw this one was annoucned with S. Craig Zehlar behind the script, Barbara Crampton, Udo Kier and Thomas Lennon, I was all in. This one delivers the gore in fucking spades. It's not a great movie but it's one of the best Puppet Master films and if you love practical gore effects then you're in for a treat. There are some serious WTF moments in here. And a good score from Fabio Frizzi.

Same here. I quit Blackhat maybe 10 minutes in. And I was cautiously optimistic. But I'll give it another go if it gets a strong recommend from Brother Zuko. And speaking of...

@Zuko - Have you seen Goldstone or the MR series yet? I have them both but haven't watched either. I really liked Mystery Road and am almost nervous for an expanded universe if you will. Everybody was excellent in it, particularly the always amazing Hugo Weaving and Aaron Pederson, and the film had great atmosphere.

I know this was mentioned by some of you last year, but I finally started watching the German Netflix show Dark. Only three episodes in, but I am loving it a lot. Very interesting and well made. Score by Ben Frost.
If you have not checked this out, please do and do not be bothered by the German language. I know you Americans do not really love to read (subtitles) but give them a go!
