I think you are right, funny thing is, there is avery nice HD master that was made for broadcast a number of years ago, and someone slapped that on a disc thats been floating around, so someone had access to it to make the broadcast master, but then things seem to get real wonky after that.

Also my understanding. That's where all the good copies are from.

Need a legit blu ray release of that here in the US, underrated sequel.

I'm not sure, but I don't think there is a 'legit' blu-ray of this anywhere. Last I checked (over a year ago now), no one even seemed sure who the true rights holder(s) was. An odd one to be certain.

I'm pretty sure the German disc is a legit version of it. 84' Media, who are a pretty good company, released it in November of last year. It's a little higher than I want to pay so I haven't looked in to it too much but that's probably the only real release out there at the moment

John Goodman is so great in this. A really fun and playful film. Dante is such an underrated director and it's a shame he doesn't get nearly as much work as he should.

I don't recall if he was actually a producer, but certainly involved - and once he bit the shit at the hands of his turd offspring the film went into distro limbo. You couldn't make that shit up.

Watched this winner of a film Saturday night. I haven't seen it since it came out theatrically, it's as dumb as I remembered.




Among the Living is the third film from the directing duo who brought us Inside and Livid. This one is another brutal extravaganza. It's tough to watch at times, the violence is fast and graphic. I rather enjoyed the story, it fits right into the whole Stranger Things / IT youth lead films but actually came out before either of them. I've been trying to find a copy for years with English subs and found out recently that Shudder acquired US streaming rights late last year. I don't find the film as effective as their previous two but it still packs a punch and is worth your time checking out. I'm curious to see how terrible their Leatherface is, that film did not need to be made and they are not the directors I would have hired had I been in charge.

I've just now finished the Starz original series Counterpart. It was great. I'd recommend it strongly to anyone who favors Cold War era cat-and mouse spy thriller, a little science fiction, or just a good old fashioned drama. It did a great job of world building and the acting was nuanced, yet fully fleshed out, compelling and, above all, superb. The show also never talks down to its audience; a true rarity. That's as good as a TV review gets from me.

I don't think you'll be sorry. How's Mr Mercedes? Never watched The Americans, but I've had several sound-minded folks recommend it to me recently. You?

I'm half way through Mr Mercedes and, having read the Steve King source novel, it's thoroughly gripping. Brendan Gleeson is, of course, charisma personified - but the support cast are all excellent. Especially whoever is playing his neighbour, a very presentable woman in her sixties whose libido has designs on Gleeson. But Harry Treadwell, Molly Parker and Kelly Lynch (yes, Kelly Lynch!) all make their marks too.

The Americans is absolutely fantastic - best dramatic/thriller show I've seen in many moons. Utterly watchable, and outstanding turns from the real-like married pairing of Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as the transplanted Soviet 'illegals' whose marriage and kids are a spy cover. I can't recommend this one enough. There are a handful of genuinely 'wtf' gruesome moments too, grounded in what one presumes is the reality of their situation/trade craft. Brilliant stuff. I burned insatiably through all six seasons in just over a month - but don't tell my GF! We watched S1 together and she was into it (a rare joint-viewing show! She's of Russian decent with a Russian Lit professor as a father and has spent a bit of her childhood over there...so it pulled her in - especially her fave game of spotting real vs fake Russians!) but she was so busy this month that I couldn't hold back and binged the whole lot in secret. Seemed appropriate to the theme of the show tbh ;)

I haven't seen this since it first hit video store shelves. In fact, I don't think I've seen any Abel Ferrara since perhaps The Funeral.
