A GREAT early 80s backwoods horror soundtrack, one of my personal faves. Has a real Hess/Last House on the Left flavour in parts, yet also strongly reminds me of Frizzi/Zombie Flesh Eaters too with it's blend of thumping 4x4/grinding synth/choral elements in the sinister 'Children's Black Mass', then getting all jolly and loose and Caribbean in parts! Awesome vintage sounds too, swathes of 70s string synth, electric piano and whatnot. Can't rec'd this enough if it's new to y'all. (And the flick too! Super grind-ey...)

I've never actually sat down and compared the Motionsound reissue with the original TRAQ release...very interesting!!

I was aware that there had been some some tinkering with the original tracks but it's quite different in a number of ways! Here's a bit of a breakdown.

So - essentially, the MSR re-issue eliminates the original version of the title song (substituting with a sort-of a cappella version), features a new 'suite' kicking of Side A which is a blend of the first two tracks from the original, has a different mix of THE BLACK MASS which removes the back-masking, and includes two extra score tracks rounding out Side B. Further, the sleeve states that tracks marked with * have also had 'additional effects by Lee Purkis' but any changes didn't leap out at me on first comparison.

This all means that keeping hold of the original TRAQ release gives you a total of 5 tracks which are different mixes/excluded entirely from the MSR reissue, not to mention 7 original cues which haven't had additional 2015 remastering/added effects!

That's a thorough and welcome comparison ScoJo. I only have the MSR, and you may remember, I've listened to it once and didn't 'get' it (was a blind buy, back when I could afford the luxury!). I might dig it out for another listen as you've revived my interest.

Ennio Morricone - My Dear Killer [Death Waltz DW114]

Creepy tension with minimal instrumentation; experimental keys and percussion panning over Edda cooing wordless lullabies. Some mysteriously-slinky basslines also creeping up in parts. Lovely gatefold sleeve with Eric Adrian Lee’s ever-impressive artwork and package design.

@Evan @Tim - The Sixth Sense has been a very engaging revisit as a standalone listen.

@ScoJo - ^One of my favorites. I also really enjoyed the film as well.


So happy to pick up the rest of this series recently. I had been listening to digital files of the series (thank you @M!), and was able to scoop volumes 2-5 in a single shot. (thank you, JM!)

Vol 2 is great (well, they all are!)



Currently listening to BBNG 2 while the baby goes down for the night. Shame the entire pressing run was faulty and has never been repressed (they are reissuing BBNG 3 and 4 but strangely not 2). The mastering is really superb, but all four sides have a persistent static noise in the background. Easily their strongest album.
