Well put together German doc tracing story of the electronic pioneers... voice over from Edgar Froese telling the history of the band interspersed with talking heads of old band members and confidants, as well as archive concert footage. English subtitles as well, handily, and, man, those modular synth stacks! :)

Evan, I’m curious as to your opinion of screaming mad George, who also has that sculptural look to his stuff, although even more exaggerated I think. I’m always on the fence about whether I like his style or not. You ever work with him?

Hatter313 I never worked for Screaming mad George but I did have a funny interview at his shop when I first moved out to Los Angeles. I clearly remember it. As he was looking through my portfolio he would alternate between praise and harsh criticism. He would say "This looks great...we are trying to have our guys sculpt more like this....next image...I really don't like these..try not to do this anymore. Next page... This is really nice....but this...you should not do stuff like this...get these out of your book.

George is very talented but there is several sides to him. When he began he was serious and did very grounded, accurate work...example would be the women who turns into a cockroach in one of the Elm street films. Realistic and disturbing if I recall. Now the other side...the one he is kind of famous for is the loose, surreal type work like in Society. Maybe he just wanted to have fun with all of it instead of being so serious...not sure. I have such a fond spot in my heart for Society and that silly fun work by George is a bit part of it.

So I see previews for Society in Fango (probably), or maybe a trailer, and start my pestering campaign - this is my most anticipated film in living memory! She caves in and orders the VHS for the store (remember: tapes were hella expensive back then), and the day comes when I finally get to see it. What I don't know is, she has also taken a copy home to watch that night, cuz she's so damn curious what I'm all hyped up about.

When I return the tape, we have an extended BS-session, the thrust of which is how messed up I am for loving this movie.

Not long after that, we're hanging out regularly drinking vodka and 'getting into it'.

That's an incredible story. My wife and I bonded over sci-fi and horror films when we first started hanging out. I've been with her for 14 years and to this day she still blows my mind with how excited she gets about weird and wonderful films (her new obsession is Naschy). We both love Society so much, we watch it a few times a year now that Arrow released that beautiful bluray it makes it all more enjoyable to watch.

Scojo - That is a story! You know Yuzna for years has been wanting to do a sequel to Society. I remember it almost became a reality but i think some problems with story rights with the original writer.
