#0995 on thick, black wax...deafmetal wrote:Well, as usual, Deaf, you've pegged it. I don't grade this score favorably in comparison to the original. Frankly, I don't grade it all that favorably in comparison to the idea of what a Johannsson score could have been. BUT. I find this score strangely compelling all the same. And isn't that what music is all about. It is to me. I'm very glad to own this LP. In fact, I might just spin it right now myself.#0995 on thick, black wax...
I have been listening to digital rips of this soundtrack for a while now. Even if Vangelis had created it, we all still might feel some kind of disappointment. The original material is part of our DNA now. I would like to hear Jóhann Jóhannsson's unused material as a comparison to this one. First spin on a late Thursday night is now echoing in the cans... moody whale calls crying out to recapture that 80's Papathanassíou magic mixed with some flying zimmer drones with farting electronic deathrays. I am still not sure what to think of all this, but it's doing the job for me right now.

Still pondering my best of 2017 list...
@Dollarhyde - Great to see your ever-expanding Seiji Yokoyama collection. I'm always interested in the recommendations you have from his catalog.
