I just saw Justice League last night. If Danny Elfman's score was even half as voluminous as the shots of Gal Gadot's ass in that movie, then it would've been loud enough to have an opinion of it. During one scene, I'm positive they were playing some part of Tim Burton's Batman theme though, and I thought that was a cool throwback. Again, another DC movie with strangely realistic characters and unrealistic action. I rather liked it!

Just returned from JL myself, really enjoyed it.

We all had quite a lot to say afterwards (both good and bad, naturally) but we were unanimously in great spirits - it's a good time!

However.....one thing has to be talked about, and that thing involves a resurrected hero, home computer level visual effects, and a certain upper lip. I mean seriously.....what the eff??! And to open the film with the worst example of it - in a completely non essential, superfluous added scene no less...none of us could work out the rational behind that at all. I probably came closest : 'guys, let's put a little scene with it right up top, the worst bit, just to get the audience used to it, huh? whadaya think, like, you know - just tell 'em straight off the bat 'yeah, it's really gonna be this weird and bad and distracting!!'

All of the special effects seemed pretty rushed, honestly. (I mean, Steppenwolf's whole freaking face though.) But you take the bad with the good.

Yeah the 89 batman theme shows up a few times, as does Williams superman theme for a brief moment....these movies though

Queuing a favourite low budget horror from the last few years- I really dig this little seen gem, it's clever, funny, intense and a terrific debut feature by Perry Blackshear. My highest rec, dudes.

If I had to tease it in one line, I'd say it's like Richard Linklater's Tape meets Jacob's Ladder? With a splash of They Live.

I had fun with Turbo Kid. How was Chappie, Deaf?

I love the turbo kid backstory. It was originally a short, which then got funding for a full script, and eventually made into a what I’d consider a classic. My major issue with it is, it’s so twee and drenched in nostalgia that it almost wouldn’t stand up without it. But the best moments really do swing punches, it’s a total solid effort.

With JL I find that Zack Snyder films always end up going through the motions rather than trying anything. So yes you get the rollercoaster but the best moments were the Leonard Cohen cover and the Beatles cover so it’s rather predictable. As a kid reading killing joke or even justice league comics in the 90s they really went for some dark storylines and this whole wave of films has to satisfy everyone and so loses its sharpness. I mean Watchmen is probably the darkest illustrated vision of human collapse, and yet Snyder shot frame by frame and lost the actual ending entirely. I watched the excellent Jackie starring Natalie Portman last night and it has real writing, real darkness and hopelessness.

How was Chappie, Deaf?

It was interesting enough to keep me engaged for two hours. My family has refused to watch the film as they didn't want to see the cute robot tormented or tortured as any part of the story arc. There was some of that, and I'm still on the fence about the overall character. It is supposed to have a consciousness similar to a child, but it comes off a bit Jar-Jar Binks at times. If you are a fan of Blomkamp, there are certain elements such as all the tech/weapon porn that should be quite appealing, including an excellent flying combat mech. I am not familiar with the band Die Antwoord much at all, so other than their looks, I was indifferent to their characters or music that was included. I always love seeing Sigourney Weaver anywhere and everywhere, but overall I preferred the Blomkamp-related short films (including Rakka with Weaver), that are currently on youtube/steam.

I watched the excellent Jackie starring Natalie Portman last night and it has real writing, real darkness and hopelessness.

I still need to watch that film. I have heard the score is excellent as well.

Just about to settle into this youtube rip of an obscure anime

Dragons Heaven.

It has a huge influence from Jean giraud (Moebius) in its art style. Curious to know of he was involved or not, he did visit Japan and hang out with anime animators some time in the early 80's or late 70's, I think he even met up with Mayazaki. The 5 minute live action intro of a model Robot is pretty awful, at least on youtube. But the animation is pretty damn gorgeous. However, I think the moebius influence only goes as far as the art style.

Holy shitballs, those oversize Incal volumes are insane! As well as various collected editions, I have the original Epic three volume set which I got in the 80s and are amongst my most treasured books (even though they're not pricey/hard to come by). I first read them over a weekend when I was bed ridden with a high fever, and their occult contents entirely bypassed my conscious mind.... O)))))))))

That they are at 12" by 16" they are nearly bigger than the coffee table :) the ink and printing is beatiful too. They were £40 a pop when they came out. Really need to get the last volume.

Those epic hardbacks I think I've seen and they are very nice too, and a bit more manageable maybe.

I also have a couple of the Moebius graphic novels, paperback by epic. They are really great too need to get the rest one day. Is this what you mean by Edena @Mateo? I have that one also and Pharagonisia.

Yep, liked this one as well. Great ending. Also do love with these indies that I don't know the actors. Makes the acting and story come across very well. If you understand what I mean.
