Heyhey

In case anyone is interested Bottleneck Gallery is doing a timed edition of Struzan's 2003 Blade Runner poster, orders close Sunday 20th Jan at 1.59 ET. Will run you £135.00 for the unsigned print, signed edition is already sold out. Too rich for my blood (although perversely I might have gone for it if the poster had film credits beneath the title treatment, so it was more of a 'movie one sheet' than an art print, I know that's probably just my weird ass though ;)

I considered getting the untamed, titleless edition of 200 when it went up on Thursday, but , at $220 shipped, I chickened out. I prefer the art on its own or as a full one sheet myself. The floating logo does not appeal to me as much.

I’m thirding this, art print or full credits, this just looks awkward. For half the price I would have jumped on it, but I’m in agreement.

I’ve got the struzan dark tower print from mondo a few years ago, and I love it, but it also galls me that it has kings name in a big font at the bottom.

I imagine this being 2019, there’s gonna be a lot of BR stuff trickling out...not great for my wallet but I can pass on this.

I thought you'd never ask. And so the Spare Strikes were born.

I was able to grab the art edition print without the floating titles. The Struzan art-only print for The Thing is my favorite modern print, and one of the few I own and have framed on the wall. This should look nice along with it. I also do not like the version with the added titles and no other credits. Interesting to read about Struzan's version being preferred from the beginning by Ridley Scott. Here are some notes from his website:
I began working on this piece of art way back in 1982 when I was commissioned by the Studio to explore concepts for the poster. I did one color comprehensive originally and from that made a few alterations as requested by the Studio. In the end, they did not use my design so I never painted the finished illustration.

In 2001, when Ridley Scott was thinking of releasing a new director's version of the film, I was asked if my original sketch from '82 could be used on the cover. It turned out that this was Ridley's favorite artwork for his film. I went through the usual artist angst, rather than use a comprehensive for the cover, better to use finished art and if I'm going to paint the finish should it be the 20-year-old design or should it be updated. I decided on the latter.

I have to admit to being somewhat of a snob when it comes to movie posters: ill get originals or none at all.

Totally missed this thread; probably for the best wallet-wise.

I'm also a big fan of Struzan's alternate artwork for the movie-tie-in version of the book:

And right on queue my local Alamo played this on Friday. It was, as usual, great. Final Cut in case you doubted
