Gents,

I was inspired to start rewatching Verhoeven flicks after reading this excellent essay: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultu ... can-defeat

I've rewatched Dan Gilbert's Robocop and George W Bush's Starship Troopers so far and its been great. Next up is Elon Musks' Total Recall. I'm trying to get a little weekly/monthly screening going with some politically aligned friends to revisit these "schlocky action" flicks of my youth. I hope to reexamine what they may be really about or pick up on themes that were lost on a 8 or 9 year old.

Are y'all vibing with this? If so, let me know some misunderstood 80/90s action awesomeness that needs a revisit under the insane microscope of 2020.

PS - Verhoeven's next flick is being called a "lesbian nun drama". Sounds awesome.

This is probably the most appropriate therapy for 2020.

Cobra - or any 'facist cop' flick of the 70s/80s - will no doubt provide copious contemporary relevance.
