The producers insisted on the seance scene, Hancock didnt get why but shot it because he felt 'they must know what theyre doing'

Adds to the feeling of disquiet I guess... every movie with a spooky empty house needs a seance scene

I guess the primitive synth stabs were a budgetary thing... sets the film in a certain period, yet again makes it all feel slightly off kilter...

Watching films growing up in 70s/80s, seeing so many American flicks portray rural communities as hostile, malevolent or just plain evil, it's hard not to think 'no smoke without fire'

Anyone had any run ins?

It's bit like an episode of 'American Pickers' this... clearing out an old house and haggling over goods.

Love that show. ;)

They can be. I grew up in rural NY and there were some shitty hick groups that always caused a ruckus but we didn't have a lot of "outsiders" coming it, it was mostly just dumb fucks getting drunk and being assholes.

That rare thing, the brightly-lit, sun drenched spooky flick.

(See also 'Midsommar')

I'm form a very small town in northern New England and never really experienced anything like this apart from killing all of the new people who moved into town.
