Nah, it was Edge of Tomorrow but the posters had giant text on them that said LIVE DIE REPEAT so people assumed that was the title of the movie. Then when it came to DVD/Bluray they kind of added Live Die Repeat to it because that's what everyone was already calling it. The novel it was based on, All We Need Is Kill, is pretty good too.



Finally had time to sit down and watch this over the weekend. It was pretty good. Kind of standard Marty gangster fair but addresses the aging aspect of these old gangsters. Really my only issue with it was how unbelievable Deniro was playing his younger self, he looked kind of young but he still moves like an old man. The scene where he beats the fuck out of the grocery store guy just looked so pathetic. I didn't recognize Pesci until he started talking. And Pacino is getting old man neck where he can't hold his head straight up with his back anymore. All of this is sad and these fuckers are getting old. Worth a watch if you like Scorsese and Deniro.

The sequel is going to be called Live. Die. Repeat and Repeat.

That's incredibly dumb. The first was originally just called the book title, All We Need Is Kill but the head of the studio apparently thought that Kill in the title would be bad, it has negative connotations.

Sums this long film up well, me thinks. I also quite enjoyed it (and it made me a bit sad, we will very likely not see a De Niro / Pesci and/or Pacino gangster epic anymore). It is what it is but as they say they make great wine in old barrels, and well, those guys just know how to act and Scorsese knows how to direct.

Interesting as that contradicts everything I read and heard at the time. lol. Also did he watch his movie? I wouldn't categorize that as an action comedy but hey to each their own. Also just to add to my own hole, when I say the film was originally called All You Need Is Kill, I'm referencing the actual title on the script. I have no clue what the working title was. It sounds like he was trying to change the name before release and the studio didn't like his version either. Although that could easily be him trying to take credit for the dumb marketing that accidentally renamed the film. I don't think the film needs a sequel and feel like it will most likely ruin what ever magic they captured in the original. It's a film I always felt shouldnt' be nearly as good as it ended up being.

The book is quite short, I might have a digital copy of it if you do any reading on a tablet/e-reader.

It's funny I was talking to a friend the other day about this film and he was bitching about it's length and how he doesn't know why it needs to be so long and he doesn't have time for that, blah blah blah. I was never into gangster films, I didn't watch The Godfather, Goodfellas or any of the other 'classics' until I was in my 20's and that was at this guys constant urging on how amazing those films are. When he was done bitching I asked him if he liked Casino (I knew the answer, it was rhetorical as he loves it) he obliged and said he loved it, I then pointed out that this film is only 30 minutes longer than Casino and only an hour longer than Goodfellas. He then didn't say anything for a minute and responded, good point. Now he's going to watch it. People are so weird.

Goodfellas only manages to last so long as it’s a string of music videos woven together by cinemas leading genius couple and if a few edits don’t land, the film almost covers too much ground. I can’t wait to watch the Irishman but I remember seeing Casino one Christmas when I was small, full of advert breaks and lasting forever. I couldn’t even fit it onto a standard vhs!

Started watching Marianne on Netflix last night. Not a bad start at all, but for gods sake turn off the overdubs and just use subtitles and French audio track. I refuse to accept this imbecilic crap, the performances are decent in French so you don’t need the dub.

Back in the day I went to a press screening of Casino, without any particular excitement, and I absolutely loved it. Seeing it on the big screen is essential for both that and Goodfellas in my book - but sadly I don't feel the same about The Irishman, which I firmly believe should have been a three part series. This would have perhaps encouraged them to introduce more of an arc into each part of the drama, as I found it a pretty lifeless watch sorry to say. And hugely repetitive of the director's previous mob films. I just didn't enjoy it at all, too many distractions, to familiar, but the bottom line for me is that I had no fucking interest in watching yet another monosyllabic De Niro sociopath. Who is the focus of the film. But is wrapped up in struggles over 'loyalty' etc etc blah blah. I mean seriously - fuck. These. Guys. Pretty sick of them getting this much celluloid time (as I am with all serial killers, I have to say...)

You have to wonder if we are approaching the end of the Italian mob genre. While I love many of the mob movies mentioned above, I think I'm ready for a new ethnic crime genre to emerge. Then again I predicted the end of the sitcom format a couple years ago and was wrong as fuck. Some Boomer things will never die.

That was me. I spoke with the director by email, he said ''Indeed we are trying to release the soundtrack on vinyl and digital. For that to happen we need a North American release on Blu-Ray or streaming. Our lovely sales agents over at Yellow Veil Pictures are also working on that. We do not have a definite answer yet but things don’t look so bad. Fingers crossed! '' But that was July 2018.

I watched Parasite this weekend. What a movie. Watched it with the family. Everyone loved it.

Yesterday I watched MI: Fallout. Also very enjoyable. I think I preferred the previous Rogue Nation but not by much. How obvious are the bad guys by the way...
And what is with all those lens flares? A bit too much if you ask me.
