That was crazy!! :D
I agree. I watch Amelia again. So much fun!
I was pretty taken aback by the setup of the first tale - seemed hella strong for a tv movie! I guess sexual assault was taken a lot more lightly back in the 70s, yikes. Anyway cool denoument, even if I saw it coming all the way through ;)

btw I first came across screenwriter William F. Nolan from the pages of 80s anthology horror comic Twisted Tales, which I was obsessed with as a teen (before I knew anything about it's forebears/EC comics etc). I still have the whole run of comics safely tucked away. Nolan's brilliant little story 'The Party' in issue No.8 led to me reading his short stories - it was fun seeing his name come up in Trilogy of Terror, full circle for me in many ways.

If you're interested in Twisted Tales/the above story, the entire run is available to read here (although they're not the greatest scans, doing no favours to the incredible art, but definitely readable...) I absolutely guarantee a fun time to be had - and a very non-PC one at that!

(incidentally… main Twisted Tales creative Bruce Jones’ story ‘All Hallows’ was adapted during the first (or maybe 2nd?) season of Creepshow, one of the better episodes for my money. Obviously TT has some fans on that show :)

no animal cruelty in this one... unless you count the beaver and pussy action as such
But I hadn't released it was a Black Emanuelle movie... So this turned out to be some interesting daytime viewing :-) First Laura Gemser movie I have seen.
All in all pretty boring though but Nico Fidenco's score is fantastic.

I think that's a staple of the Emanuelle films, most are pretty boring. I haven't seen any myself so maybe some one who has seen them will chime in and let us know which ones are actually good.

might as well continue...
I really need a shower now

Joe D'Amato's 1978 Papaya dei Caraibi a.k.a. Papaya, Love Goddess of the Cannibals
fantastic score by Stelvio Cipriani
also pretty boring. And calling this a cannibal movie is overstating it a lot...

None.

In my view they are all boring (I‘ve seen 5 or 6 over the course of 20 years). They are not even ‚erotic‘. BE in America is the most notorious, it has 2 really nasty scenes, I give it that.

This is exactly why I've never watched one, every time I see some one who's watched a bunch it seems they are not worth your time. Music is great in most of them though

Evil Dead Rise

I actually really enjoyed this one, it's not as brutal and nihilistic as the Evil Dead remake but it's still pretty gorey. It has moments of humor which make it feel more like a continuation of Evil Dead as a franchise, I'm glad they brought this back. The filmmakers were very much inspired by Indonesian horror films of the last 5-10 years. May the Devil Take You seems to be very directly taken from which is funny bc it's very clearly inspired by the original Evil Dead. I hope they continue making films like this every few years. It's not ground breaking but it's enjoyable and worth checking out.

Horror in the High Desert

A mockumentary about a hiker who goes missing in the Nevada desert. It's set up like a made for TV Friday night special documentary, feels very late 90's / early 00's with it's choice of cuts, transitions and stock footage. It's short and a little slow but I felt like it did something different and unique to the genre. I enjoyed it and the final few minutes are pretty tense.

Horror in the High Desert 2 Minerva

The end of the first one sets up a sequel very blatantly. So what do the filmmakers do? Make another film but ignore the premise they set up for the sequel and very loosely connect the two films. This one is very slow and basically nothing happens at all. I was surprised this even got any praise at all. Then they have the balls to end the film with a 30 second clip that will lead into what they set up at the end of the first film, truly baffling as to why they didn't just go this route to begin with. Not recommended.

The Kindred

This film has some of the craziest monster effects I've seen. Holy hell did they spend all of their budget on that stuff. Pretty great film that is just a marvel from a practical effects standpoint.

Combat Shock

Dark, bleak and depressing.

As for TV we finished Ted Lasso and it was just a wonderful show. Highly recommended to everyone, it's funny, heart breaking and it's great to see more complex characters in a comedy/drama series.

Platonic, this is way more entertaining than I had anticipated. Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan play estranged best friends. Rose is a "typical" middle aged mother who is struggling with getting back into the workforce after spending 13 years raising her kids at home. Seth plays a middle aged hipster who runs a brew/pub and is the brew master, he recently divorced his wife. Rose's character contacts him after his divorce to check in on him. They start hanging out together and hijinks ensue with their weird relationship. There's an amazing scene where 4 people are standing in a handicap bathroom stall doing coke only for the one guy to say it's actually Ketamine with a little coke, the following scenes of Rose all fucked up on Ketamine were hysterical.

Silo, boring sci fi with mildly interesting premise, waiting for it to get good.

Hell's Paradise, crazy anime, it's premise is a bit long winded but basically shogun sends criminals to look for elixir of eternal life on weird island, accompanied by executioners. If any one can bring it back they will get a pardon. Island is full of insane creatures, wild and plant life.

Swallowed dir by Carter Smith

I'm now entirely convinced any one who writes about horror these days has no idea what the term "body horror" actually means. Are there bodies in this film? yes. Was there some horror? sure was. But that doesn't mean this is a body horror film lol. From the director of The Ruins (which does have some body horror in it!), this tense film revolves around two best friends who never pulled the trigger on a relationship between each other decide to spend one last night together before one of them moves to LA to be in porn. They make a pit stop on the way home which goes sideways and the rest of the film spirals from there. They become unwilling drug runners that unfortunately things don't really go well for. I'm not going to go into much more as it's a pretty small scale film that hinges on the performances and some clever ideas. It's pretty damn great and Mark Patton shows up in a role that I didn't expect at all. Definitely recommend this one.

Made it a little more than halfway through Beau Is Afraid. I was spellbound the entire time. It was late though and I have knee surgery tomorrow. So I had to cut it off so we can get to bed. Can't wait to finish it - hopefully tomorrow.

This is new to my eyes, really interesting! 20min short film version of Children of the Corn made in 1983, a year before the movie version.

It's in HD as a bluray extra but watchable enough over at YT:

Renfield

This was not good. There's some mildly entertaining moments but it feels like a film made by people who are trying to make a mainstream big budget horror comedy but are not actual fans of the genre. When Awkwafina is the highlight of your film you know you did something wrong. One thing I will give the film credit for, it goes for the most absurd about of blood at every possible moment. There is one scene in particular where Renfield crushes a guy from a second story drop to the ground and his body explodes into about 50 gallons of blood, I laughed at how extreme it was.

Huesera The Bone Woman

This one was far more interesting. A pregnant woman becomes haunted by an evil spirit that she must deal with. Pretty typical "pregnant woman gaslit by everyone around her that nothing bad is happening" type film but it's very well made, the main actress is excellent and there are a few genuinely creepy moments with the spirit. Also I'm very creeped out by bones breaking and sticking out of the skin which this has a few shots of.

Jumanji The Next Level

Oooooof. Big faceplant here. The last Jumanji movie with this cast was very fun popcorn action film, filled with goofy lines, goofier action scenes and great cast chemistry. This time the premise is pretty much the same but the game has changed levels. Except this time when they go into the game, Danny Devito and Danny Glover get pulled in as well. Danny Devito's character is stuck in the Rock and Danny Glover is stuck in Kevin Hart. This gag could have worked if they kept it short and had the Rock not do what ever the fuck accent he was going for. Instead they lean into this for over an hour and it's unbearable. The action scenes in this sucked, the comedy sucked, the story sucked and character interactions were all bad. This is easily one of the worst big budget sequels I've ever seen. I want my two hours back.

@inksb: I really like Huesera. The sound of those bones breaking was intense.

I watched another Mario Caiano poliziotesco today. I never really paid attention to his movies (still need to see Ombre - the last movie he made I believe), but the ones I have seen so far have been really enjoyable. Terrific car chases for instance.
And great scores!

I'm not sure if everyone around here saw the news back in January or not but Julian Sands, known to most of us through Warlock, went missing while hiking. It's been 5 months and hikers found remains in the area he went missing. The coroner has not confirmed if the remains were his yet but the likihood is very high. RIP

Deep into Tangerine Dream things just now, came across this which I don't think I have quite seen in full before - and much better quality than previously. (LOVE the variation of the Howard Blake theme during the extended section as she searches for him - surely the audio of this has to exist out there somewhere??)
