I feel a little bit of deja vu adding my noir voice/list on the forum, but maybe not! (I know there was some healthy neo-noir chatter last year…)

Off the top of my dome, some faves:

PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET
LAURA
THE BIG COMBO
GUN CRAZY
BLAST OF SILENCE
THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW
LADY IN THE LAKE
THE KILLING
DARK PASSAGE
DETOUR
KISS ME DEADLY
DOA
THE HITCHIKER
THE SET UP
ODDS AGAINST TOMORROW
FORCE OF EVIL
NIGHT AND THE CITY
OUT OF THE PAST
ScoJo, you're incredible...thank you sir!
I see my journey started here:
http://spintheblackestcircles.org/bb/vi ... 31#p145531

- Out of the Past (1947) apparently I really liked it :-)
- Laura (1944) film noir gold
- Murder, My Sweet (1944)
- Criss Cross (1949)
- Nightmare Alley (1947) I watched this prior to knowing (and having seen) Guillermo Del Toro's Nightmare Alley from 2021 was a remake. I really liked this noir.
- Journey Into Fear (1943)
- Stranger on the Third Floor (1940) my notes: Some say it is the first of the classic noir movies. It is only 67 minutes long. I really liked it.
- Raw Deal (1948): my notes: finished this classic noir but I didn't care a lot about it.
- Detour (1945): really liked it
- The Maltese Falcon (1941) a classic and one of my personal favorites

It seems I stopped there but last year during my movie relay I did watch:
Gilda (1946) : Absolutely loved this one. How I got from Wings Hauser to Rita Hayworth is beyond me...
Gilda looks great as well, appreciate it!

First time watch. And in 4K. Insane and incredible. I can imagine a book has been written to explain it all.

My first watch was round at my friend’s on our regular vhs horror night. Aged 13. Can you imagine?! Haha, explains a helluva lot though.

At Sundance right now. We saw American Society of Magical Negroes yesterday. It was very funny. :)

Later on this morning we're off to see Between The Temples. Trying like hell to get tickets for Freaky Tales but so far no luck.

That's awesome! 20 something me is very very jealous. For years I had tried to figure out how I could afford to go. These days it doesn't interest me as much and I'd rather go to a more horror focused one.

First time I've watched this in over a decade I think. Still quite good. I love how annoying and unhinged Brad Pitt is in here.

Any one started the new season of True Detective? I like it so far, Jodie Fosters character is so fucking unlikeable I want to spend more time with the trooper Navarro character.

I actually rewatched the first season last week with the wife who had never seen it before, she was insanely impressed with it. It holds up really well.

I just got the new UHD of The Raid in the mail today, not sure if I'm gonna watch it tonight or tomorrow but the new color grading looks fantastic from the screens Gareth shared while working on it.

The Raid dir by Gareth Evans

Watched the new 4K transfer and it looks fantastic. I much prefer the new color grading to the weirdly grey/blue muted look. It was my wifes first time watching it and she was impressed, she made me rewind a few scenes so she could watch them again.

Satanic Hispanics

A fun anthology featuring 5 Latino directors. As is the usual case with anthologies, some segments are much better than others. There were two I thought that were great, one dud and two decent ones. The wrap around was generic but finished really strong.

I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore dir by Macin Blair

It's been a few years since I last watched this and it still holds up. Great performances, good writing and entertaining as hell .

The Boxer's Omen

Holy fuck this movie is absolutely wild. Seriously this is one of the craziest Shaw Brothers films I've ever seen. One part boxing movie, one part exorcism, one part spiritual battle and all parts insanity. I will warn there is some animal cruelty unfortunately, they behead a chicken and there's some shots with some alligators that while not directly abusive you can tell these creatures are abused and scarred from it. Highly recommended if you're looking for something off the beaten path.

Destroy All Neighbors

A fun light hearted low budget affair. Lots of goofy and enjoyable practical effects. An audio engineer, Jonah Ray, is in a bit of rut trying to finish his epic prog album, he gets a new neighbor that happens to really annoy him and when he finally musters up the courage to confront him things go sideways in insane ways. A good supporting cast and a tight 86 minute run time, it's an entertaining horror comedy.

Stuck at home sick today, in the mood to try out a movie I've never seen before and i only heard bad things about. The only thing I really know about this movie that Richard Stanley was fired from directing it. I'm going to give it a fair shot and I'll keep my ears open also to see if there's anything interesting with the soundtrack.

Haha, what a treat @Cult! After you're done with the movie I'm sure many on here join me in STRONGLY recommending following up with the documentary Lost Soul. (It's just somewhat souring that it seems Stanley might be something of a POS despite his creativity)

Echoing Lost Soul viewing. Adding to Scojo's comment of Stanley being a POS, there was even more stuff that came to light after he did The Colour Out of Space film that he is in fact a huge POS.

I'm definitely going to watch Lost Souls. Sounds like the movie was doomed before it even started

Another first time viewing here. This one was recommended to me by my mother of all people.

Great movies in here... Still need to watch Conquest.
@inksb some very interesting stuff I need to check out. Loved The Raid when it came out!
I am sure I have seen The Island of Dr Moreau but it was a long long time ago. And I am very curious about that documentary you all are mentioning.
Also @Cult very nice idea to watch Christiane F. Have been meaning to watch that for a long time.

I got back yesterday from a very nice holiday in Lisbon and tonight I was able to watch some movies again.
One very nice one I had never heard of before today. And the other one was pretty ridiculous.

This evening I watched this. The Director’s Cut. I believe I hadn’t watched it since it came out on DVD in 2002 or 2003…
I really liked it and it brought back memories from me being 18 and depressed.
Makes me want to revisit The Doom Generation as well… but I will leave that for another night.
