With Kilmer's passing I decided to watch Heat. I grabbed the 4K transfer, Mann really went hard on making that new version as dark as possible

Vampire Hunter D 40th Anniversary screening was excellent! Amazing remastered digital scan, and easily the most engaging viewing and experience of the film score for me with my first theater screening. It’s been a minute since I have watched this one and I have read the novel more recently, but I will say again this is one of my favorite fiction genres.. big dark tower/Gunslinger vibes!

Scattershot Kilmer tribute watches over the last week have included Kill Me Again (solid neo noir), The Saint (fun nonsense), Mindhunters (renny harlin nonsense), Spartan, The Doors and MacGruber.

@Inks-watched Heat just a month before Kilmer's passing great film and the first time I've viewed it in many years.

@ScoJo- Hollywood 90028 looks interesting and I'll look out for it.

how was The Sender? I saw that TV is releasing the score of it but I've never seen it

This past week I managed to watch The Monkey which I really enjoyed, it's Perkin's weakest film but that's mostly bc it just all felt like a fun goofy movie he wanted to make instead of something very serious. Gore gags are very impressive and humorous. Rewatched The Cell for the firs time since it released 25 years ago, that movie takes so much inspiration from Holy Mountain, overall I enjoyed it as a visual treat. The Wild Robot was a fun animated Dream Works film, good if you have little ones or just looking for a lighter viewing. And a movie I had never heard of called Fight or Flight with Josh Hartnett, this thing is a dumb as hell barely above direct to dvd action film of the early 00's but everyone involved knows what they are making and just lean into it, it's an absurd action film that takes place on an airplane and there's a whole scene were people get delimbed by a chainsaw

The Sender is a little gem, a beautifully crafted much loved VHS rental back in the day. Low key, smart, atmospheric with some excellent shock moments and a great final shot - it still managed to creep me out. The Changeling or The Dead Zone are good reference points.

It's lowkey driving my OCD nuts that TV used a wonky version of the poster art for their sleeve and didn't think to straighten/centre it correctly eeeek

I didn't even notice that but now looking at it why is off center? also why is the title staggered like that with "the" being above "sender"? I'm not seeing that on any poster or vhs cover

🤷🏻

Botch job, sadly. Shame, as I was initially thrilled that they utilized the superb key art.

In case anyone wondering/hasnt seen it…

I was quite hesitant on this due to the subject and since I’ve had a bit of a year of it with the Reaper, percieving it was going to be ultra heavy - but so glad I did, highly enjoyable! Probably my favourite Cronenberg for a good while, it’s weird and funny and horny, loved it. There are a couple of spots where the camera hits Cassell just right and the striking resemblance to DC is quite spooky!

If he is indeed retiring I can think of no better sign off really…. and as a bonus I found it hilarious that he publicly turned down and mocked Tarantino’s request to have a 35mm print struck (of this clinically digital film) to screen at the New Bev.
Dave never loses his edge haha.

Very happy to hear this is excellent, I was a little weary about it as well
