The word I'm hearing from some friends who have already caught it on this little preview tour, is that the trailer basically describes the first half and is very good, funny etc...but then halfway through something flips and it's literally fall-down-killer laughs/amazing. I wouldn't let 'em spoil further than that. But now I'm so damn hyped! One friend actually told me that he had to be calmed down by his gf, he was convulsing so hard from laughing. (Warning: high expectation alert!!!)

I will (guardedly) report back soon...

If it really is as boffo as I'm hearing, I'm sure it will get a wide release.

Just been watching the poster documentary '24x36' on the Sky Arts channel here in the UK... not as much of a poster nut as vinyl nut but it's a pretty interesting watch for its segments on the collector mentality... of course Mondo (and the prices its posters go for on eBay) features quite heavily in the second half of the doc.

Think I mentioned this here before, but it was kind of pain in the ass to see at the time because it was a showtime exclusive or something. It's on Netflix now and I highly recommend it. Has Scorsese written all over it.

I'm watching Batman The Killing Joke animated movie.

I've just finished watching The Void and I quite enjoyed it. Not a life changing film, but that's not a meaningful demerit; it's a really, really fun flick. Lots of cool practical effects and some terrific visuals had me thinking about our own resident STBC fx guru, Evan, on more than one occasion. I've heard the film compared a lot to The Thing and I can certainly see why, but if I had to pick a JC flick that it reminded me of, it would be Price Of Darkness. The theme, budget/look, setting, and action were all very reminiscent of that film for me. It also had an enjoyable scene at the very end that was a cool hat tip to the final scene from a non-JC flick that I believe we all hold dear. Also, the meth head was played by an actor who I've only ever seen in one other role...as a meth head. Typecast like you read about. Recommended.

Lots of fucked up elements in this one. Midgets, brain drinking, drills through skulls, amputation, etc.

I spoke to the rapper Necro the other day about this and he says he owns the original soundtrack. He went to Mike Sahl's house in 95 and Sahl gave him the reels for free and that he didn't really seem give a shit about them. Anyway thought that was kind of interesting, he said he would consider lending them to a label next year to press.

Necro. Wow. I haven't thought about that dude in ages. Fairly certain I'm still scarred from that video for I Need Drugs.


PS - I just remembered that Necro produced Agent Orange for Cage. That was a great song. The Wendy Carlos sample was an inspired choice.

Necro has always had killer production, definitely his strong suit in the rap game . I still own the 12" for Agent Orange/Radiohead one of the first records I ever owned.

Necro still raps, he made an entire album with Kool G Rap a year or two ago.

Definitely his strong suit. He also did a track for Raekwon so love him or hate him he's minted now.

Just finished watching The Girl with All the Gifts. No spoilers, but I really enjoyed it. Not fully what I expected, but I'd definitely recommend it.

I liked the score in the film, but it didn't change how I had felt about it when I streamed it - it's a bit like listening to the intro to Everything in its Right Place by Radiohead over and over.

Hey, I love the intro to Everything in its Right Place... and funnily enough was actually spinning this score to Girl...today. :)

I will say Side A and B are stronger than C and D. But in a word: eerie, much like the movie.

Loved Cristobal Tapia De Veer's score to Utopia, which I do think is better/stronger than this, but very pleased Mondo/DeathWaltz put it out all the same, as it deserves a wider audience.

The film itself is pretty downbeat, but good performances by the leads and always nice to see a UK-set zombie movie with a bit of budget thrown at it.

On a thread related note, just been watching a bootleg of this understated, Lenzi-helmed giallo :

On my flight to and from the US I got to watch some movies:
- Arrival : did not like it. Started of decent and mysterious, but became (dare I say) too American... For me it fell flat in the second half. Maybe I am too much of a cynic to appreciate hopeful/moralistic crap.
- The Girl with All the Gifts: Loved It! As Chiefbrody already stated: recommended! Very well done. Original. Don't really care for the score as a stand alone listen. But great during the movie.
- Free Fire: Absolute crap! In the beginning I was thinking that this could be very entertaining and fun, but I just went on and on and on. Too much of a thing is not necessarily a good thing.
-Split: not bad. I think James McAvoy had a blast playing this role. Actually don't remember well how I felt about it in the end. Neither here nor there I guess.
- The Accountant: really loved this one. Hadn't heard anything about this one. Very nice action flick. Original. Of course very unbelievable. But highly entertaining.
- XXX Return of Xander Cage: turn it off after 15 mins. Utter garbage!
- Hell Or High Water: great movie. Great story. Great music. Recommended!

And I watched Eyes of your Mother on Netflix. Weird! But good. I can understand people disliking it, but I love these types of movies.

Agree with you on quite a lot of those.

I highly recommend seeking out LOS PARECIDOS (The Similars) which is a great Mexican horror, in the vein of a feature length Twilight Zone episode, with satirical/political undertones.... beautifully done all round. A little long, but never less than interesting, and often approaches genre greatness. The music is wonderful, with nods to Herrmann and The Thing amongst others. Joe Dante has been a vocal fan of it (which, once you've seen the film, comes across as an amusing Easter Egg/in joke actually....you'll see what I mean ;)

It's on Netflix right now. Superb poster too!
