Street Fighter is interesting just to watch Raul Julia graciously and tremendously give the material the respect it doesn't deserve. (the movie, not the franchise itself). He was such a charismatic performer who was so often better than the material he had to work with by an order of magnitude. His Gomez is a major influence on young hatter lol.

I watched Circle of Iron last night, i had never seen it. it was a thing. I liked it, but i wanted to like it more. The kicked off a fantasy jam though so I guess its time to watch Conan again.

Street Fighter is such an atrocious movie. I remember being so excited to see it, I was young and obsessed with Street Fighter 2 (I played a lot at the local arcade and had it on the SNES). I didn't understand why they cast JCVD as Guile but what ever he could do the fighting right? Well the fighting was terrible and everything else. Such a shame it was Raul's last film, he was a pretty entertaining casting as Bison lol.

For those who don't know, there is a fantastic Street Fighter scene in Jackie Chan's City Hunter. Do yourself a favor and watch the scene

I have seen JCVD years ago but at the moment I am watching the flicks chronologically for the most part. I am waiting with Universal Soldier as I have a 4K version that I want to watch when I get my new A/V receiver and subwoofer (hopefully by the end of March).
JCVD is from 2006 so I have ten more years of JCVD flicks to go before I get to that one.... pffff
I did really love JCVD if I remember correctly.
I find it harder and harder to rank them... a lot of them are enjoyable but few are outstanding. I will end my quest with a list of JCVDs everyone needs to watch regardless of ranking.

Confession time, @Hatter - as first time watchers, me and my gf made short work of S1-4, ploughing through them together in a few frenzied weeks. She then drifted away to some other shows in her life, while I continued thru S5 and eventually dropped the ball myself midway through S6. I had great fun while the fever lasted, but honestly have no great desire to pick up the thread and complete 6/7.

As I hadn't seen Studio 60 but she had, we rejoined for a spirited binge of it's single season not long after our WW marathon - interesting but flawed television, very enjoyable. Obvs loved seeing Whitford in a very diff role.

Nope, you did it right and your instincts are in point. Every rewatch for me goes exactly the same way, including my most recent one. 1-4 excellent, 5 pretty good, I start to lose interest in 6 and season 7 I think I only saw when it aired and maybe one after that. 1-4 is some of the best television ever written and I’ve probably watched those seasons a dozen times between reruns, dvds, and now streaming.

I'm definitely curious about both Sports Night and The Newsroom now, though I have heard iffy things about the latter over the years (as in, it's the Sorkin thing with the most 'bad' Sorkin in it, if that makes sense?) I've seen the infamous 9/11 airplane scene/meme. Oof.

We went on a bit of a movie tear after Studio 60 too - intro'd my lady to both Moneyball and Molly's Game which she really enjoyed (I still stan for the latter quite a bit, always really enjoy it and I could watch Chastain doing a five hour lecture on voodoo economics and still be gratified ;)

I wasn't really into Chicago 7 unfortunately, far too many off-notes and distractions for it to be a cohesive, satisfying movie for me. The ending was appalling (and an unforgivable slight to the real history/Bobby Seale). I like Sacha BC and all, but this felt like stunt casting and his accent was dreadful. Yikes. The less said about Eddie Fucking Redmayne (ever, in any context), the better.

I need to revisit A Few Good Men at some point, I think we can both stand to watch that one more time and with some new-found 'Sorkin Goggles' on :) I love Malice and have rewatched many, many times (peak Baldwin!), and Social Network similarly, that's just a straight up masterpiece, but an utterly depressing movie. The one neither of us have seen is The American President which I'm def eager to view - Sheen, Douglas, Reiner, Sorkin, Benning.... I mean, come on! Will be weird seeing Sheen in the 'supporting' role to a different POTUS though!

Man, don't watch Ava then. Or maybe do. I don't know. I saw it for the first time last week and was severely disappointed. Chastain was impressively capable and can carry an action film as the lead. Farrel, Malkovich, and Davis are ready to chew the scenery in supporting roles. Unfortunately, the movie stinks out loud and evrey single aspect of the film is so cookie cutter you wonder why they bothered to attempt to flesh out the "characters" or "plot". if you have a bunch of by the numbers roles, just streamline the flick and let the acton carry it. And they had the cast to do it, too. Two stars.

If you start skipping DTV films, you're going to skip a lot of JCVD. Including some very good ones in my opinion. BUt these three ain't them. The three you mentioned have their (few) moments, but are largely forgettable. And you have to keep it enjoyable for yourself so you do you. But if you skip movies, then you're not hard corps.

Well, according to IMDB those are the only three DTV movies. All the others have been released in a theater at least in one country :-) (If I understand their listing correctly)

@bez in the US most of his late 90's and onward films were DTV for us. I remember when JCVD was doing a limited theatrical run near me and couldn't believe I could see him on the big screen again.

A lot of films are DTV for most of the World, but get a theatrical release in the home country, or even just home town, of a courted private financer. Otherwise, as Inks says, most of his latter works - INCLUDING SOME REAL GEMS - would be considered DTV.

DTV is always a mixed bag. especially for, as inks and Mateo have mentioned, certain actors or genres it just became the norm for a while in the mid 90s and early 2000s. Now stuff just gets made for streaming, so i wonder if that subtle and ofttimes unfair split will fade away completely.
