Brilliant slow burn, literary mood piece, directed by Anthony Perkins son Oz!

Astonishing score by his brother Elvis....a surreal, hauntological dream, dashed with Americana.

If you are into the eerie, minimalist stuff like The Witch, Under the Skin (as well as classic ghost story stuff like MR James, Shirley Jackson) this might just do it for you. More of an art piece than a 'regular' movie. For some crazy reason, I kept thinking of one of my all time favourites, Death Bed!

I already demand the soundtrack on vinyl! I can imagine it as a conceptual release - weaving the score, sound design
and narration into a total listening experience (which would be terrifying, tbh!)

It's on Netflix right now people, get your weird-ass Hallowe'en groove on!

Just got the blu-ray of Salem's Lot in today. Now to find the time to watch it...

4K looked so good!

I am getting to see SHIN GODZILLA next week and am really hoping it kicks ass. Only playing a few days next week at the drafthouse at least in Dallas.

Gutted that I missed this in spite of buying a ticket, twice, because of Real Life Shit. The score, however, is a monster unto itself.

They just added all 4 seasons on Shudder. :)

Watched most of the first season of Tales from the Darkside on Shudder this past month. The bite-sized episodes were the perfect length for me during that span. Tonight, I got caught up on season two of Ash Vs Evil Dead which I still really, really like. The score and soundtrack fit well and are buckets of fun. Now I'm off to give Crazyhead a whirl.

It's been a long time since I watched my copy of this. I always liked Anchor Bay editions. The picture quality of the DVD's are excellent, and on most of their releases you would get a card of the original movie poster. I think most of these editions were released around 00-02

I've been hankering o watch this for a while, but with Arrow's upcoming blu ray release i'm holding off until that comes in.

Once again, the licensing synchronicity plays out, New blu ray, Score reissue by waxwork forthcoming.

Westworld is awesome, binged the first seven last week and ran home last night to watch the new one.

I watched the first four episodes over the weekend, and it's an interesting mind-bender. I am not sure who the protagonists are at this point, if any, but I am looking forward to seeing more of the story unfold. In short, hooked.

Exactly so, gents. The level of ambiguity in regards to the character alignment displayed on Westworld is often a lazy writing crutch (or, at best, tiresome), but neither are remotely the case thus far. Last night's episode was as good an example of that as they've shown yet.

Westworld was enjoyable. Anybody else catch the finale? We saw the big character reveal coming for a bit now, but it still made the story more interesting. There was a bonus scene after the credits, and plenty of unresolved situations that could be picked up in another season.

That's a strong look! Also with James Earl Jones, Janine Turner and an actual non-cameo performance by Stan Lee...as himself! Boss movie.

Roberts' creeping on stranger Turner in the opening scenes is outrageous - that shit would NEVER fly these days.

@Deaf - I really like Westworld, warts and all. And there were some big warts. But I'm up for season two.

@ScoJo - The Ambulance is fun as hell and Roberts is hilarious as the skeevy, jacked cartoonist. He was on so much low-grade trucker speed when they shot that film.

I'm halfway through the new blu-ray of Salem's Lot. It looks great and is the same, fun slow burn of a film that I remember. Looking forward to polishing it off on the morrow.

the blu of Salems Lot looks amazing, one of my favorites, even if the first two thirds tend to move a bit glacially, but if you are a King fan then you expect the methodical (some would say boring, not me though) way he sets up communities and characters before getting into the mayhem.

Westworld was killer, even if the majority of the reveals were obvious, it didn't take away for me at all. although i did get the sense that they may have thought the major one was more obscure than it was, they spent a good five minutes on the reveal and no one i know went "Oh! so that;s whats been going on!"

Ash vs Evil dead continues to be effortlessly satisfying in every way for me, and i'm upset that we only have one more this season, they go so quickly

Despite the season calling for the traditional rankin-Bass offerings, I actually spent some time revisiting their two LOTR adaptations. the animation studio that did them eventually reformed as Ghibli, and you can see the style for sure. flawed as all hell, especially Return of the King, but they also touch upon some of the thematic stuff that Jackson's films left me cold on, and they always have a place in my heart. there's some really interesting scoring there too, especially in the Hobbit, minus the borderline unbearable folk numbers that I have no patience for. Also, as much as its a departure from the description in LOTR, their Gollum is legitimately frightening and creepy, and is my favorite version of the character, likely due in large part to Brother Theodore's unearthly voice acting.

I had no idea about the Ghibli connection to those films. That's very interesting. I've always enjoyed The Hobbit, but I don't think I ever saw Return of the King.

Ashamed to say I've never seen Argento's Inferno all the way through... watching Arrow's Blu ray steelbook version of a couple of years back.

About 20 minutes in, so far tonight... and it has a very nightmarish, dream-like quality that appears more indebted to mood than plot.

Some lovely blue, red and purple mood lighting, certainly, that must have influenced NWR..??
