Saw 'Under the Skin' with a live orchestra and Mica Levi at the South Bank as part of this year's Meltdown Festival... while that really underlined how essential the music and sound effects were to the tone of the movie, the film itself reminded me of the sort of student project that would be regarded as a 'good first effort'...

Then again I did have a couple of beers beforehand.

Open Windows, in the premiere here in Granada. I love Vigalondo and his vision of sci-fi minimal but in this one we can see how good he is with thrillers. Great movie and great main theme apart of the film score

The person who put this trailer deserves an Oscar. And then a lawsuit for misleading advertising. It is easily one of the dullest Video Nasties I've ever watched, with one of the most inadvertently hilarious finales committed to celluloid.

It's fair to say I hope Clint Howard never hears the Podcast, because it was really difficult to be nice about the film.

Oh well, two down... two to go. Next up is The Burning. Rick Wakeman Score a-go-go!

Kill List - Ben Wheatley

Wasn't expecting much tbh, but it was certainly one of the better horror/thrillers that I've seen in recent years...an unnerving raw kind of experience (there is extreme violence) and great sound design too...a very unsettling score (Jim Williams), which unfortunately doesn't seem to be commercially available. The film tends to stay with you after viewing and that is usually a good sign.

The Wicker Man, Eyes Wide Shut and Rosemary's Baby seem to be some of the main filmic influences.

Well worth a watch.

Yes recently watched Kill List to see whether it lived up to the hype - and wasn't quite what I was expecting, as I was expecting a slightly more conventional if slightly twisted hitman-type thriller...

It's one of those films which you watch with a growing sense of dread, anticipating something absolutely horrible happening

And then it does

Don't know if you're UK or US based but well worth checking out the Channel 4 series 'Utopia' which has the same lead guy... Utopia also has a killer if slightly bonkers sounding soundtrack. Highly recommended!

Watched Oculus, Wolf Creek 1 and 2 last night. I would say they were all decent watches but nothing great. I thought Wolf Creek could have gone a lot further. The main guy was creepy but he just didn't seem to have any motivation. Oculus was mixed because the acting could have been better. The parents were great while the kids just didn't sell it for me.

Watching Jorodowsky's Dune tonight. I'm excited. Wish some rich millionaire would give him the funds to make the movie. Instead they are spending it on private jets and islands. Peoples priorities are messed up.

Blood and Black Lace for the first time last night. I'm trying to get deeper into giallo, and the local indie video store downtown has a fantastic selection. I'm trying to encourage physical media as much as I can, and this is one way I do so.

Watched "The Battery" last night. Great independent Zombie flick. I can't really describe it without giving too much away. It has some great ideas in it and is definitely one of the best zombie movies I have seen in a while. Very focused on the interaction between two people but I think most people here on the forum would love it.

Thanks for the tip...I will check it out. I'm originally from the UK, but currently live in Ireland. I've not seen any of Utopia yet, but am aware of its existence.

Maskell was superb in Kill List (especially his non-verbal acting, just using the facial features etc), as was Michael Smiley (who arguably stole the show).

Would be great to see a Kill List soundtrack...the unsettling ambience is tops!

Cheers...for the heads up. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed too...it is certainly one of the best horror/thrillers that has been released in a very long time...if it isn't a cult classic already, it soon will be. It is very rare for me to be this postive about a film...but this low budget piece has certainly impressed me.

Yes...I've seen that, from the great Slavoj Zizek, I particularly enjoyed his skits about Coca-Cola & Kinder eggs. I just wish he'd stop habitually rubbing his nose though!

I watched "Boy Eats Girl" the other night - amusing but mostly a bit rubbish though the gory denouement reminded me of the end of Brain Dead and was actually quite good!
