I watched The Ritual a few weeks ago with Jamie. Enjoyable overall, and I like how they keep things murky until the last act. Felt a bit contrived with some of the Scandanavian paganism, but I also liked the creature design in the end. I was curious how UK board members might find the acting and characters. Jamie will never watch a horror flick with me, so it was fun to actually get her through an entire screening without having her check out.

You just know the first thing Jed Clampett did was taste that bubbling crude. Don't see why we should penalize another down on their luck pauper with big dreams. Swimming pools. Yogurt bars. Militia compounds. Zombie dogs.

I do, I've had it for years but only started using it "consistently" last fall. It helps that they finally released an Android app after years of COMING SOON. I try to keep up on it but some times fall behind. I don't really write reviews but rate most of what I watch through the week.

Tobe's get's way too much shit. I love his version. It's a lot of fun and has some fantastic effects in it. I miss Tobe, he didn't get the respect as a director he deserved outside of TCM.

When he died i went on a tirade about this with my friends, (and possibly on here a little, i can't recall) but his filmography is chock full of gems. The Funhouse, Salem's Lot, Poltergeist (as misty as the real story is on that one, its at least some of his work for sure) TCM 2, Lifeforce, and Invaders From Mars are all awesome and rank in some of the most re-watchable, fun, and genuinely frightening movies of the genre. He's second only to Carpenter in my mind when it comes to the major american horror directors.

Tobe is grand. I'm a large fan of Lifeforce, Salem's, and Poltergeist. I recall a lot of well-deserved love for him in here after he died. I don't think he's in the same class as Carpenter though. Not that that should penalize him in any meaningful way. JC has more great films and less not-so-great films than virtually any challenger in my mind. In summation, to quote a young Spielberg about his future co-director, "Hooper drives the boat, Chief!"

Great to see all the Tobe-Love being expressed anyway...I'll go along with all the top tier TH flicks mentioned above, and throw in Eaten Alive fo sho.

Oh man.....I envy your virgin brain! Such an awesome movie, let us know what yo thought of the score too fella - still umming and ahhhing about that PDR release (will likely wait and see if it actually materialises at some point, and not risk the pre-order malarky ;)

Good to see others feel the same. I'm a huge Tobe fan. I was really annoyed after that ridiculous debacle with the guy who "worked" on Poltergeist saying Tobe didn't direct at all. Which is not possible, the film is distinctly both of their styles at various moments. Spielberg definitely had a heavy hand in certain parts but he didn't direct the whole movie. Funhouse, Lifeforce and TCM2 are classics in my eyes. And I even enjoy a lot of his "lesser" films like Spontaneous Combustion, Night Terrors, The Mangler (yes I said I enjoy THE MANGLER!), his two episodes of Masters of Horror and the segment of Bodybags with Mark Hammil.

Indeed it was awesome! It thought it was really well made. The images of an empty LA came across brilliantly. Also loved the the characters.
I can't really remember the score a couple of days after viewing this. Girls wanna have fun sure, but not the score.
On PDR's website it says Sold Out...

I read this tidbit about casting: Thom Eberhardt said: "Heather Langenkamp, who was the start of A Nightmare on Elm Street, came in and read for the part we ultimately gave to Kelli Maroney. She was the number one on our casting list."
